It would be usefull to have an option to exclude certain images from an automatically generated Index, such as the Illustration Index.

This could be done by adding a property "Show in Indexes" for all images which defaults to "true";
if set to "false", the image does not get listed in Indexes.

Use case for this:
You have a document which uses various, userdefined graphics as "bullet points" for lists and some kind of logo in the Page Header, and there are other "normal" images which illustrate the text.

If an Illustration Index is generated, it will be cluttered with the "bullet point"-images and the header logo which from an authors view don't belong there.

Currently, the only solution to this is to generate the Illustration Index, make it editable and remove the "unwanted" entries manually - which can be a considerable effort depending on the number of images.

It could even be a suggestion to have the "Show in Indexes"-property on all Objects that can be listed in Indexes, even though i cannot think of an use case for this right now. But it would add some higher flexibility to the generation of Indexes.

Makes sense. And a good place for "Show in index" would be below Print at Options > Properties.

There is options "Create from" in Index dialog.
I can make Illustration Index only for images with caption from several categories (for example "Illustrations"). I added for need images a caption with category "Illustrations" and now I update my Index and it has only list of illustration without any another images.

Heiko, may be we can close this enh as WFM?

Don't understand what you mean. The request here is to _exclude_ some images but keep the others for the table of contents. And in bug 122477 we decided to allow empty names for shapes to hide them at the Navigator as well as from the ToC. Would do the same for images (not working yet).

By the way, Illustration was renamed to Figures.

The option "Create from" at the Type tab of the ToC dialog allows to create the index from captions or object names, as Roman wrote. By that you exclude all unlabeled images. So it's a perfect WFM.
