Created attachment 127699 [details] Screen shot I am using LO 5.2.2 RC2, and I noticed that in Writer, the vertical ruler disappears is only visible on pages where the cursor is. So if you scroll down or up without changing the cursor position, the vertical ruler disappears.
Confirming on Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: ac8f705c4c3f8c185e1a6f2b9948753a7190c831 Threads CPU : 2; Version de l'OS :Mac OS X 10.12; UI Render : par défaut; Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Calc: group
I see this also in LibreOffice 3.3.0 OOO330m19 (Build:6) tag libreoffice-3.3.0.4 so it was there from the start of the LO project. Inherited from OOo
The problem is the same when scrolling with the mouse from a two-page document upwards to the first page - the ruler only gets displayed once the cursor has been activated on that page.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! This applies to both vertical and horizontal rulers. Demonstrated with: 0. Open Writer 1. Insert 3 page breaks with Ctrl + Return 2. Use "book view" in the status bar 3. Turn all rulers on in View > Rulers 4. Scroll to the top of the document Result: visible page has no rulers. However, I think it qualifies as an enhancement rather than a bug. Still valid for a recent master build: Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 6d9b9d1228cdee69e767833202442a1fed6174a6 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
I suggest part of this rulers view issue is a user uncertainty in expected behavior. In the View->Normal view (physical page emulation) with rulers enabled: A) In one model, all emulated physical pages having even a partial appearance in the document pane are expected to be rendered with associated rulers visually adjacent in full or part. B) In a second model, the existing behavior of only rulers for the active (by cursor placement) page are rendered. C) Something else. Let us say I as a user enable rulers in Normal view and the behavior does meet my expectations. Is this a bug or something I just do not understand. Hmmm... review the documentation at https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/swriter/guide/ruler.html?DbPAR=WRITER#bm_id8186284 which is silent on intended ruler view and rendering behavior (other than enable/disable menu choices). I suggest a documentation update indicating that rulers are only rendered for the active page would at least indicate intended behavior. A user may not be pleased with the intended behavior but at least would know it is not a bug. Regards.
