I can't reproduce it in

Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha1+
Build ID: 64d3bd38c9242c1cc114f6e68bf13475ef679b73
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.2; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk2; Layout Engine: old;
Locale: ca-ES (ca_ES.UTF-8); Calc: group

Maybe, only Win related?
Could you please try in the last master build from today http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/ ?

I tried reproduce it on version 5.3.0.0.alpha1+, the problem persist.
The underline between Thai text and English text still disconnect.
But the gap smaller than version 5.2.2.2.

Now, I test it on Microsoft Windows 10.

I'm seeing it. In 5.3 the problem is not seen *with certain zoom levels*. Must be the Harfbuzz engine helping. When it is seen in 5.3, the gap is not as wide as in 5.2.
