Have removed and reset profile. No difference.

What file format do you use to save? Can you attach a sample file where to reproduce the issue.
Saving the file does not cause the problem. Closing and reopening is when the problems arise. It doesn't happen with all my calc files just one so far. It's only about 160kib but it's my largest and it has quite a lot of formatting, with borders, number formats (date, currency), a few coloured backgrounds. It contains personal financial info and is too large to replicate. Replicating may not even produce the same results if not exactly the same. It has a few macros but all but one are activated with a button and work as they should. The other one sorts 4 of the sheets when I save but if I check after using it, all sheets are as they should be until I close and open again. I save by clicking the save icon on taskbar. I am currently testing 5.3 beta1. With 5.2.3 everything is OK. The change in formatting seems totally random so it's hard to pinpoint. Text will be bold when it should be regular, backgrounds in the main colour I use appear in other random cells and borders disappear and appear around random cells that should have no border.
This bug is nearly impossible to confirm or reproduce given the instructions....is there anything you can do to make it easier for us to reproduce? If the instructions are literally "do some random things and random things will happen when you close and reopen" then this bug is going to be closed as INVALID as it's literally impossible to confirm. Marking as NEEDINFO for clarification. "Rnadom formatting issues" just isn't sufficient.
I understand and if you can't do anything with it, so be it. But the only thing that isn't random is the closing and reopening. The formatting changes occur every time but are not the same each time. I thought it might have something to do with my macros but running them doesn't cause the problem. I'll wait for the next release and see how it goes.
For the record - 5.3 beta2 is not making those random changes to the formatting. All seems well so far.
You can close this report now. I've checked many times and there is definitely no further formatting problems with beta 2. alpha and beta 1 were all making the formatting changes. Some how it appears to be fixed. I've marked it "Resolved".
It was never confirmed, so I think resolved as "FIXED" it's not right. I think better change the resolution to WORKSFORME OR INSUFFICIENTDATA.
