Comment 2 JPJ 2016-12-01 19:46:02 UTC
This may be a KDE Neon issue. I installed a few older versions to try.

On this system the same problem also occurs in LO 5.2.3.3 from libreoffice.org, 5.2.3.2 from the Ubuntu PPA, and 5.1.4.2 from the Ubuntu 16.04 repositories.

However, neither LO 5.2.2.2 nor 5.3.0.0.alpha0+ which are still running in my Kubuntu 14.04.5 system which now resides in a virtual machine on my Neon system.
Comment 3 JPJ 2016-12-01 19:47:51 UTC
I meant to say the problem does not occur with either LO 5.2.2.2 or 5.3.0.0.alpha0+ which are still running on my Kubuntu 14.04.5 system which now resides in a virtual machine on my Neon system.

Ok, maybe you could ask Neon users to test. Perhaps on #kde or https://community.kde.org/Neon#Developer_Communication
Comment 5 Hamid 2016-12-19 10:18:32 UTC
I can confirm no active cell border in calc. It happened after upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10 on regular Kubuntu.

Similar to https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99705 but the workaround was not applicable.

It dramatically affects usability.
Comment 6 Buovjaga 2016-12-19 12:11:53 UTC
NEW per comment 5.
Comment 7 Hamid 2016-12-27 14:18:48 UTC
Similarly numbers are shown all blue. Font color direct formatting is effective only when the cell content is edited, after edit done, reverts back to blue. I thought it was a problem with themes. I have removed the .config/libreoffice folder and it was not resolved.

JPJ and Hamid: please give us the output of the command:

I confirm this issue on Ubuntu 16.10 for Calc 5.2.5.1 .

I am having this exact problem after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I have never filed a bug report before and I only want to check on any progress for finding a solution. I have tried various versions of LibreOffice and am close to removing Ubuntu 16.04 and reverting to the previous version because it worked perfectly. I would prefer not to have to do that. Any advice. Thanks.

I can confirm this issue against

- LO 5.3.1.2
- Ubuntu 16.04 with latest HWE kernel (I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel-hwe-16.04 instead of xserver-xorg-video-intel, respectively)

I changed the theme to dark and it reappeared but sth else popped up, then gave up LO for GlSheets. Put your eggs on different horses some would say!

Björn: any idea about this?
Comment 15 rastakvajanasta 2017-03-22 20:02:57 UTC
I have the same problem. Active cell is not bordered. Reinstalling driver (sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel) did not help. Enabling OpenGl helped to highlitght the active cell, but destroyed other things...

One more thing - when reinstalling driver, I got this:

jd@jd-OptiPlex-780:~$ sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 xserver-xorg-video-intel : Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.17.99.902)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Any help? I am a newbie and no expert and this my first report ever, so I am sorry if my post is not in a manner it should be...

Relax. Biz as usual not here no more. Real problems real attitude. Else there are plenty out there called normals. But don't get this post wrong. Apologies, that was my two cents, thought it might help a free soul. Stay bright, abiding. Bugs will go!
Comment 17 I. Glossa 2017-04-01 19:26:38 UTC
I am encountering the same problem as rastakvajanasta in trying to carry out the install of
 sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is on a fresh install (not upgrade) of Ubuntu 16.04 on an Acer 1400 with the
Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset.

I have NOT tried to install libreoffice-gtk3 which was suggested in the ubuntuforums.org General Help board. I hope someone at least can identify the cause of the problem and preferably recommend a workaround. Pretty hard doing a significant amount of data entry with no borders around the current cell!!
Comment 18 Nico R. 2017-04-05 11:59:11 UTC
Can confirm on Kubuntu 16.10 64-bit with LO 5.3.2.2 from the official Ubuntu repositories with libreoffice-kde installed and active. Platform is a Dell Latitude E6410 with Intel i915 graphics/chipset. xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed, and I already tried purging and reinstalling it with no effect.

On enabling OpenGL, LO crashes at the splash screen. On disabling, it works fine, but the active cell is not marked in any way. Only when I select two or more cells, they become highlighted in a blue color and with a blue border around them.

The problem was solved automatically after upgrading from Ubuntu 16.10 to 17.04 today . The current version of LibreOffice is 5.3.2.2 .
Comment 21 Buovjaga 2017-05-02 03:40:56 UTC
Ok, guys, time to upgrade to Ubuntu 17.04 (or report a bug in Ubuntu Launchpad)
Comment 22 Adalbert Hanßen 2017-07-25 20:08:08 UTC
I confirm that this mark selection bug does not show up on a system started from a live stick with Xubuntu 17.04 amd64. The version of LibreOffice included in this distribution is LibreOffice 5.3.1.2.

However, Xubuntu 17.04 is not a LTS version and a LTS version should not contain such a bug of one of the most used programs included in it.
