Description S.Andreason 2016-12-10 06:19:42 UTC
A couple weeks ago I installed 5.2.3.3 Build ID: d54a8868f08a7b39642414cf2c8ef2f228f780cf

When I am in a spreadsheet, and Format Cells,
or in a chart and Format a data series or axis,
it freezes up for 30 seconds, then a window appears:

soffice.bin wants to install fonts
Additional fonts are required to view this document correctly.
* Central Khmer
* Burmese
Do you want to search for suitable packages now?

If I click Yes, it then says:

Search results in:
Failed to find fonts
No new fonts can be found for this document

If I click More information, it directs my browser to:

https://wiki.debian.org/PackageKit/ItemNotFound#Missing_Font

I speak english, my document is in english, it did not have this problem when I was previously running LibO 5.1.4.

I installed this package manually, bypassing the package manager in my debian 8.5 (which of course is not up to date with the absolute newest versions.)

What changed from 5.1.4 to 5.2.3 ?

This is stuff related to the downstream Debian packaging.
Comment 2 Rene Engelhard 2016-12-11 22:20:25 UTC
erm? and why?

a) we *DISABLE* the automatic font install
b) the Build ID being d54a8868f08a7b39642414cf2c8ef2f228f780cf does show it's NOT a Debian build. The Debian build would not have git to get that hash *and* has the Debian package version there instead.
Comment 3 Rene Engelhard 2016-12-11 22:23:47 UTC
and he said

"I installed this package manually, bypassing the package manager in my debian 8.5 (which of course is not up to date with the absolute newest versions.)"

which also means he didn't install it from Debian. fwiw, that statement is (partially) wrong, jessie-backports _has_ 5.2.3.

Please, some basic care before claiming it's a downstream issue where it's exactly NOT a downstream issue but an upstream one.
Comment 4 S.Andreason 2016-12-13 18:31:18 UTC
The buildID for 5.1.4 that did not have this problem was f99d75f39f1c57ebdd7ffc5f42867c12031db97a
Perhaps that will help identify what changed.

"We disable automatic font install"?
I downloaded this direct from
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/?type=deb-x86&version=5.2&lang=en-US

Will it make a difference if I uninstall and install 5.2.3 from jessie-backports?

Thanks.

No one is CC'd to this report, so they will not hear. You have to try backports and see, if it works better.
Comment 6 S.Andreason 2016-12-19 18:11:52 UTC
Although adding backports creates a whole new challenge (175 packages recommended to upgrade) I've avoided breaking my system this week, and only installed the parts of libreoffice I use (calc, draw, writer, pdf), since trying to install _libreoffice_ recommended 55 packages it depends on (45 of which are java related...and not wanted)
I can now say this is a solution. Problem fixed.
This path won't determine what got messed up in the build I reported on, requiring fonts not english... but I guess I'll let it go.

Thanks for following up, let's close then.

To quote Björn from https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104883#c12
"System-integration is a doomed effort with a "generic build" like the binaries provided by TDF."

Closing.

Then use a version packaged by your distribution.
