The only difference is that gridlines in Impress/Draw have slightly larger dots at the intersections. Keep also in mind that the visibility depend on the zoom factor and that Writer is not a drawing application that needs those guidance. In my opinion it is a WFM. Other opinions?

The functional need for gridlines is nearly zero, I guess. But if the option is offered it should be useful in someway. And it isn't in my opinion. The fun of the zoomfactor is that it's working the other way around. The grid is only visible after zooming out out, and not zooming in ;-). It's only qualitatively inconsistent. But I don't mind setting it to WFM.

Then maybe it can be an easy hack? > Keep also in mind that the visibility depend on > the zoom factor and that Writer is not a drawing application that needs > those guidance. The higher the zoom value, the smaller dots.

After this issue has been filed again we should care more. In bug 112760 it's suggested to bind the dot size to the zoom factor but perhaps we better go with the number and use the minor ticks of the ruler with some multiplication factor. Plus, when the dot gets a little bit more space it wouldn't hurt too much. Could imagine that 1px is not so easy to spot on hires displays, btw. So this needs a dev evaluation now rather than ux.
