When using the notebook bar, there is no "Open recently used document" as is in the File menu.

Indeed. Maybe the button could have a dropdown list like in the regular toolbar.

Works ok with 
 - Groupedbar Compact
 - Contextual Single

Does not wokr with the others.

Tabbedbar has the recent document uno command and groupedbar has the open uno command which integrate in the dropdown also the recent document list.
