Created attachment 130180 [details] writer file with section including endnotes followed by index This bug concerns a large file with endnotes and indices. The main text and endnotes have been put into an initial section, so that the indices can follow. The file takes a few minutes to load completely, but the load pointer allows immediate editing. Meanwhile the page counter keeps adding pages until the full count has been reached. I think I began editing in the endnotes before the file was fully loaded. The file then crashed. Recovery produced a file that started well, but after the page counter added a page of two, the file crashed again. Now it is in an endless cycle--upon loading, the file crashed within few seconds. I have move the pointer to the top of the file, but the crashing just continues. I have attempted to select all and to transfer the clipboard to another file, but the clipboard memory disappears just a soon as the file crashes. How can I break the cycle? How do I check for a corrupt file? How can I recover the original document? Thanks for your help! I have attached a copy of the file hoping that will help.
Hello, Thank you for reporting the bug. I can't reproduce it in Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 9a30cb2161506e003f14592d83075ab9d30516c1 CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.8; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk3; Locale: ca-ES (ca_ES.UTF-8); Calc: group Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
Thank you for your interest and patience. I've experienced a computer crash which has consumed inordinate amount of time to recover. Following your suggestion I have updated to the fresh version and followed the instructions in the readme file. While the installation proceeds ok I can't find the installed files under UBUNTU. The launcher continues to show the 5.1 openoffice, which continues the bug. Then I let the UBUBTU installer open just the writer (deb) file, which it did. That file opened in 5.2.4 and upon opening called up the problem file for restoration. Upon restoration, Writer opened the file, started updating the page count, and after a few pages, finally crashed. I'd very much appreciate your insights into the problem. JRB
Created attachment 130856 [details] the file which contains a large section with endnotes, followed by indices. This file will not load under ubuntu, but drops to and endless loop of recovery.
AMDG I sent along a comment which I think was deleted. I have updated to libreoffice 5.3, but the problem persists. So perhaps the status of the bug need to be assigned. Would you kindly resend me the first file I sent you so I can check if it is the file causing trouble. In the meantime, you will see that I have sent you the troublesome file once more. Again thanks for your consideration and help.
AMDG Still working on that file. Under LO 5.3 and Linux I have tried opening a scratch file and then opening the troubled file. Same crash, but all the files crash right out of libreoffice. A panel appears with the notice that due to an unexpected error Libreoffice has crashed; it the lists the file currently at crash time, and reports that upon reopening Libreoffice the files will be recovered. This bug needs to be raised to critical status. JRB
