Description Telesto 2017-01-14 15:33:00 UTC
Description:
Probably a matter of personal taste but I find the way of selecting table content a counter intuitive.
1. When clicking and hold the left mouse button while dragging down at the total left side of the paper border I'm selecting only the left table column (column A).
2. When clicking in a quite quite small area nearby the table border selecting the "Select table row"
3. When clicking and hold the left mouse button at the first cell A1 downwards, I'm selecting individual cell in column A again.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open attached file
2.Click in the left margin with the left mouse and hold it
3.Drag downwards

Actual Results:
Only the left column gets selected

Expected Results:
Personally I wouldn't expect left or right table column selecting capability's in the border margins. Only a full selecting in the left side. Now it's counter intuitive in multiple way's:
1. Distance between actual column and the place clicked for selection
2. An bit awkward structuring (total left column selection, more nearby to column table row selection, and inside the cell selection)
3. Columns the middle can't be selected in the same way

Reproducible: Always

You get a clear feedback with the cursor. It becomes a big arrow pointing to the left when you are in the area left of the table for selecting a row, or it's a downward arrow for columns, and on the top-left edge the arrow points to south-west indicating the table selection. If we increase the area you run into trouble when you want to add something next to the table, e.g. the text above.
So it just WFM.

@Heiko Tietze
I understand the problem of increase the area; fine with me. But why is there a table column selection option when dragging by holding the left click in the left margin (between -2 and -1 in the ruler) and for the right side (between 17,5 and 19 cm)

Not sure to understand you right. But what you actually do far away from the document content is to move the cursor. And like clicking somewhere in the paragraph and moving the mouse down you make a selection. I don't see a confusion.
