Version is in the title, as I cannot find it in the dropdown yet. I have narrowed down the source of the issue to openGL implementation. In 5.3.0.1 I had both UseOpenGL and ForceOpenGL set to true in my LibO user registry. With this LibO was working just fine, indicating OpenGL as active. With 5.3.0.2 LibO crashes with this setup during the display of its splash screen. To have 5.3.0.2 work on my system, I need to set /both/ UseOpenGL and ForceOpenGL to false. My system has Intel Haswell graphics on linux, with a very recent Mesa. The issue has one particularly nasty aspect. All those users coming from 5.2.x or 5.3.0.1 with UseOpenGL and ForceOpenGL set to true might get the crash in 5.3.0.2 before the application gets a some point where the OpenGL setting can be changed. This leaves them with only two options: - erasing their profile and restarting with a default profile (which means loosing a lot of tuning, configuration and extensions); or - manually editing the registrymodifications.xcu file with an external editor (which might go beyond the experience of many users).

I openSUSE Leap 42.2 Linux I can not start LibreOffice 5.3.0.3: it crash at very start without any error. But after running `soffice --safe-mode` and selecting to dissable OpenGL and OpenCL, restarted program will start. I also use integrated Intel Haswell (Intel Core i5-4300M processor with Intel HD Graphics 4600). I installed Mesa 13.0.3 with OpenGL 3.0 enabled.
For a comparison, LibO 5.3.0.2 starts fine on a system with the noveau driver (which is also Mesa). This is a system with Nvidia Quadro FX 570 graphics. Nonetheless, it is unusable with openGL on due to graphical artifacts.

Eventually tried with LibO 5.4.0.1 RC Now I do not see the crash on startup. LibO is still hardly usable with OpenGL enabled, due to the many rendering issues, but the behaviour in Linux is now testable and more consistent across Intel Graphics and NVIDIA graphics (with noveau), which seems to be a good step forward.
