I just tried to change from an old version of OpenOffice (4.1.3) to the new LibreOffice. When I try to store a new or existing file in native LibreOffice format or Microsoft xml it is not possible. I always end up with 'error during save operation general error! Maybe it is not exact because I receive it in German. 'Fehler beim Speichern des Dokumentes test: Allgemeiner Fehler. Allgemeiner Ein-/Ausgabefehler'. This happens with writer as well as calc. Storing the file in .txt format is successful. so it should not be a permesssion problem.
Would it be possible you attach an example file by using this link https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?bugid=105598&action=enter ? (have in mind that any attachment is automatically public, so remove any confidential/private part from it)
Quoting from email received in private: " I just type 'test' in writer and try to save it. test.txt will work test.odt will fail, as any other file."
Could you install the final 5.3.0.3? If the problem still occurs, you could try Help - Restart in Safe Mode.
I tried the portable version from portableapps.com It the version 5.3.0.3. I choose the portable version since I can try on different systems with identical software. on my laptop the software is running on my desktop it still shows the same symptoms. Both run windows 10 Pro with all updates installed, checked twice. I did some deeper research. Dependency Walker lists a lot of unsolved reference and the unsolved list of references are not identical. Most of them look like 'API-MS-WIN-APPMODEL...' I also tried the option with safe mode. No difference even in case disabling all user settings. Any helo would be appreciated. Shall I run process monitor? Since I can write in the .TXT format, I don't believe it is a security issue.

So both are running the portable version? When you reported the problem, were you using a full install?
