Created attachment 131366 [details] .pptm file to reproduce the problem The slide sorter takes ~10 times more time to display than the sorter in MS Powerpoint. I provide an example pptx file on which I did the comparison but I think this is a pretty general behavior. This is uncomfortable and I hope it can be improved in the future.
I can't reproduce it in Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 880033edde516fc30225005245253293a6a58ba4 CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.8; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk3; Locale: ca-ES (ca_ES.UTF-8); Calc: group Slide Sorter displays the slides instantly. Could you please provide the information about your LibreOffice build from Help - About LibreOffice. On the other hand, could you please provide the timing in MS Powerpoint and LibreOffice Impress? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' once the information is provided
I use: Version: 5.2.5.1 Build ID: 0312e1a284a7d50ca85a365c316c7abbf20a4d22 Note that I use a HiDPI screen, so it might be slower than on a normal screen. The slides are roughly displayed instantaneously, but then it takes several seconds to refine the view.

Things may have improved since I cannot reproduce a significant difference now using LO 5.3.
I wrote a bit too quickly. There is a difference. It takes ~3s for LO 5.3 to preview all the slides, while it takes ~1s for PowerPoint to do it on the same windows machine. So I still think there is room for improvement.
I can't reproduce it in Version: 6.0.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 04d70c0999c716f5465631eca50945915ec607c4 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.10; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3; Locale: ca-ES (ca_ES.UTF-8); Calc: group What computer do you have? IMHO, even 3 seconds is quite acceptable...
The test was made on a Virtualbox Windows virtual machine.
(In reply to Frederic Parrenin from comment #7) > The test was made on a Virtualbox Windows virtual machine. What's the time with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I can still reproduce this issue with LO 5.4.3. It takes 2 to 3 more time to display the slides in Impress than in Powerpoint.
This is too broad of a topic ("make interface faster"). Without a code pointer, this report is not useful. I will close.
