In OS X when the text in a text box is selected the text shimmers as it is reformatted slightly, with spacing between characters being changed, even though no new text has been entered. After the text box is deselected the text is reformatted back to its initial position, so this is not a critical bug, but it is visually disconcerting to see the formatting and character spacing randomly changing. This does not occur with Keynote or Powerpoint. (One hypothesis- it appears that when selected, the bounding box calculations differ slightly so the text is justified differently). To reproduce, create a new slide and add text for the title and several lines of text in the body of the slide. Now alternately select a character in the title then the body text- you will see the text reformatted slightly with inter- character spacing changing, despite the text being unchanged.
Reproduced also on Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 6de4ecbe1372c0242f406d45cf999969616f87dc Threads CPU : 2; Version de l'OS :Mac OS X 10.12.3; UI Render : par défaut; Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Calc: group I am uncertain whether this has always been the case and that it is now simply more visible, or whether this is a regression.
On my machine, reproducing only requires activating the mouse cursor (clicking any where in the box text area), I don't actually have to select any character.
Created attachment 131685 [details] Screenshots showing font reformatting when text selected These screenshots show an Impress slide with: (1) no text box selected (2) textbox selected but no text selected (3) textbox selected and text selected. Note that in (3) the spacing between fonts is different (e.g. note the increased spacing between the 2nd and 3rd characters). In Options|General neither "Allow quick editing" or "Only text area selected" is selected (in any case, these options do not affect this bug).
(In reply to Alex Thurgood from comment #2) > On my machine, reproducing only requires activating the mouse cursor > (clicking any where in the box text area), I don't actually have to select > any character. I only see the perturbation of the font layout with the text selected (see my recent attachment). I am sure this bug has been present over many previous releases, although I don't have a previous version to test at the moment.
