Description: I've got 2 fresh installs of debian 9.0.1-i386-lxde one in a virtualbox and another on an old dell d400 laptop on both the writer module wont start the libre-office 5 logo apears, the red bar at the logo bottom sneaks till the end and then nothing happens anymore all other modules running well (calc, impress etc.) i pushed my virtualbox from stable to testing but the result is the same Steps to Reproduce: 1.open menu 2.go to office 3.select writer with left click same result when starting in cli with "libreoffice --writer" Actual Results: the libre-office 5 logo apears, the red bar at the logo bottom sneaks till the end and then nothing happens anymore Expected Results: start writer Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No because it is a fresh install without any customizing Additional Info: [Information automatically included from LibreOffice] Locale: de Module: StartModule [Information guessed from browser] OS: Linux (All) OS is 64bit: no Builds ID: LibreOffice 5.2.7.2 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0

To be certain the reported issue is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and re-test? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present
still the same issue at first start the logo apeared a second time after the first red line but writer still not starting at first start it createt a file ".lock" if i try to open it writer try to start without succes if i open it with leafpad everything works well
try LibO 5.3.3 the 5.2.x branch you are using won't receive any more updates. it's time to move to 5.3.x maybe upgrading will fix the issue. back to NEEDINFO. revert it to UNCONFIRMED if issue persists or change it to WORKSFORME if bug is gone
