Description janieb11 2017-09-16 06:18:28 UTC
Description:
I copy articles off of websites and if there's photo or two, the pictures will disappear either before I save the article or after I save it. When it disappears, there's an empty box in it's place with the words "Read Error" in the top left corner. I never had a problem doing this with MS Word. I have lost so many pictures that were embedded in articles and it's exasperating, to say the least.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Copy article from website.
2.Delay in saving article (picture(s) will vanish) or save it immediately.
3.Reopen saved document to find no picture(s)but an empty box with words "Read Error" in it.

Actual Results:
The picture(s) are gone and can't be restored. This issue has been a problem since I first downloaded LibreOffice in April 2017. I have been a longtime MS Office Suite user and decided to forgo it and try LibreOffice. This disappearing picture problem is major for me as I like to archive many documents with embedded pictures.

Expected Results:
The saved documents should retain the pictures that were embedded in the article. The pictures will also disappear if I delay in saving the document and it remains open.

Reproducible: Always

I use Yahoo.com to surf the web. If I find an article with embedded pictures that I want to save to my Documents folder, I make a copy of it. I'm using Libre Writer.

If I delay in saving the new document, the picture disappears and leaves a box behind that says "Read Error" in the top left corner. Or, alternatively, if I open a saved document that has pictures, the pictures will have disappeared with the same box and error message in its place. It happens all the time.

The other place I copy pictures from is Zillow.com for interior photos of houses for sale. The same results occur with documents saved from this website. Also, I've had an occasion where I couldn't properly copy multiple interior photos from Zillow because they would overlap each other. I'd have to create numerous documents for one house in order to copy off the interior photos.

So, it's a problem that I'd like to see rectified. I never had this problem with MS Word.

I hope this adds more detail to work with. Thanks for your assistance.

Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?

https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale

Zillow.com is the primary website that I try to copy pictures from into a LibreOffice Writer document. The pictures will disappear after a time if I don't save the document immediately. If I do save it soon after creating it, the next time I go to open the saved document, the picture will be gone and an empty box of where it was is the only thing that I see.

Also, another problem with the house pictures is that they will overlap on a page when I try to copy a number of them. I had to create multiple Writer documents just to try to capture all of the house photos. If I was using Microsoft's Word, I could copy many house photos on a single Word document.

Moreover, I used to copy articles from Yahoo.com that had embedded photos in them and, with Microsoft's Word, I had no problems copying them and they never disappeared at any time. But that isn't the case with LibreOffice's Writer. Pictures always disappear with a box that has "Read Error" in the top left corner.

If you could fix these problems, it'd be great. I hope this is the information that you were looking for. I am not computer savvy so I had no idea of what information to fill in the above boxes such as URL, Whiteboard, etc.

One final comment. I am now using LibreOffice version 6.0.2.1 now. I haven't tried copying pictures with this newest version yet. However, since none of the previous upgrades worked with picture copying, I'm not expecting any improvement in this latest version. I will try to copy house pictures today and if it works, I will let you know. Otherwise, assume that the same problems persist.
