Description megarat 2017-10-12 15:51:49 UTC
Description:
I have a large workbook in Excel (.xlsx) format which consists of 40+ tabs, each containing 3-300 rows of about 300 columns worth of data. When I open this workbook in LibreOffice Calc (v5.0.3.2, Build ID: 1:5.0.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty2) on Ubuntu Linux, it is common that many of the tabs won't have their data loaded. I.e., they will be completely empty.

This bug has been vexing for me, as I would sometimes open the workbook, go to a specific tab, make a couple of changes, save it, and then quit. This results in the now-empty tabs being saved as empty, thus losing the data that was originally there. As such, I cannot use this file in LibreOffice, except when I just want to look up some information (i.e., read-only).

This problem reproduces on two different computers in two different offices, though it seems to happen more frequently on one computer than the other.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load .xlsx file into LibreOffice Calc.
2. That's it, really.
3.

Actual Results:
Sometimes the default tab will be empty, but usually not. If you click on the other tabs, you will sometimes find a tab that is empty, but which used to contain data before.

As far as I can tell, the process is not deterministic. If I close the document (without saving) and open it again, some tabs will be missing data, but not the same tabs as before.

For the sake of this bug report, I did a quick test right now (using the computer which doesn't seem to experience the problem as often). The workbook currently contains 88 tabs worth of data. Opening it for the first test, it contained all of the data in all of the tabs. The second time I opened it, three tabs were missing their data. The third time I opened it, all tabs had all their data. The fourth time I opened it, two tabs were missing their data (though different tabs than on the second try).

Expected Results:
All tabs of the workbook should contain all the data they were originally saved with.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Please test with a new version 5.0 it's outdated, and a lot of work have been done lately for a better compatibility with xlsx files.
