Description davidegx 2018-01-19 14:16:08 UTC
Description:
Some formulas containing "a csub b" are totally messed up after saving the document as .doc.

As a result the formula is unreadable and you lost all the formula content.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new Text Document.
2. Insert -> Object -> Formula.
3. Type: a csub b
4. Click anywhere on the document to exit formula editor.
5. File -> Save As -> broken_formula.doc
6. Confirm you want to use Word format.
7. Close libre office.
8. Open back the document.
9. See the formula is unreadable.
10. Double click on the formula.
11. See "a csub b" was transformed into "} {}"

Actual Results:
Formula is messed up and unrecoverable (at least from a user point of view).

Expected Results:
Formula should be readable after saving to .doc (or any other format).

Reproducible: Always

Notice I have tracked down this to a very simple formula. I discovered this with a long complex formula that got lost after saving :(
Comment 4 Mike Kaganski 2018-01-19 14:53:48 UTC
Reproducible with Version: 6.0.0.2 (x64)
Build ID: 06b618bb6f431d27fd2def25aa19c833e29b61cd
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: default;
Locale: ru-RU (ru_RU); Calc:

and with current master

and also with LibreOffice 3.3.0 OOO330m19 (Build:6) tag libreoffice-3.3.0.4

but NOT with OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 OOO330m20 (Build:9567)

Side note to OP: it's generally a very bad idea to store your work in foreign formats. Please use ODF where possible to store your work, and only export to foreign formats at those moments when needed to share with parties not supporting ODF. (This is not to say that this bug has less significance because of that.)

Dear davidegx,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
