Description lo-bugs 2018-02-09 21:21:41 UTC
I have customized my menu a bit, by moving the 'Customize' and 'Options' entries from the 'Tools' menu to the bottom of the 'Edit' menu.

Due to this change, menus or menu items introduced by LO releases *after* my change, will not show up here.

I didn't see the 'Form' menu that was introduced in 6.0. Only after exiting LO, renaming the profile folder and restarting writer, the new menu showed up. I had a similar problem with the new Notebookbar related menu items in the 'View' menu introduced in one of the earlier 5.x releases - but I didn't pay much attention to it back then, since the feature was still labeled experimental.

It looks like Writer is creating a menubar.xml in my profile folder once I change the menu layout - I assume if that file exists, LO simply reads the menu configuration from there and completely ignores whatever the current defaults are.

But excluding users who customized their menus from ever seeing any newly introduced menu items is not a proper solution, IMHO. Especially since the user never gets a warning that the configuration option he's about to use might have negative side effects like that.

There should be an update check that recognises clashes like that and either points them out or (preferably) offers to fix them. Since the default root menu items can not be deleted or renamed using the GUI, adding the form menu to the menubar.xml file in my profile right after the table menu should not be a problem. The situation might be more complex in the case of new menu items instead of entire menus though.

I didn't check, but I'm assuming there are similar problems with the other customization options.
