In Powerpoint you press wherever you want to start typing and in Impress you need to press the "Click to Add Text" line.

In Powerpoint a user can press wherever he wants in the text box to start typing while in Impress one has to expressly press the "Click to add text" line to start typing.

This is less user friendly, and annoying for users with impaired motor skills if they're using the mouse.

Bug 116342 requested the same thing, so you could try a recent master build to see, if it addresses this: https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86_64@42/current/
Comment 2 Pedro 2018-03-29 22:10:39 UTC
It still wasn't implemented in 6.1 dev of 29.03.

Ah, but it works like this
1. Tools > Options > Draw > General
2. Untick "Only text area selectable"
3. Double-click text area

Tried the Master build from 01-04-2018 of the Libre Office 6.1 Alpha and this still wasn't fixed.

Even by going to Tools > Options > LibreOffice Dev Impress > General
Unticking "Only text area selectable" makes the text area only available by double click.

However, the purpose should be for not having to make it necessary to double-click but selecting the text input by single click. Selecting the Text Box for dragging and other actions should only be done when selecting the border.

We discussed this on IRC and Pedro created a new report: bug 116768
