Miklos Vajna committed a patch related to this issue. The patch should be included in the daily builds available at http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/ in the next 24-48 hours. This bug was not RESOLVED FIXED yet. When Launch writer, create new odt, insert formula and save as, Writer will still left tmp file. See Attachments "20180518_tmp_file.png".

If you also think, that this bug isn't resolved, please reopen it and add information about the version of the master where you still find the bug.
The above commit has a testcase that asserts that at least one type of this bug is fixed. If you find a bug that is related to this, please don't reopen this bug but open a new one and add details there. Thanks.
