I cannot reproduce
Steps:
 - select whole row 1
 - Data-Sort
 - question "Sort range"
 - select Extend selection or Current selection
 - in Sort dialog click "left to right (sort columns)"
 - OK

Are my steps correct?

Comment 4 Geoffrey Skinner 2018-06-01 16:34:02 UTC
Is the order of steps correct? I just reproduced it with the current build (installed last night) with these exact steps:
1. Select sheet (or rows with data -- same result with both; by comparison, trying the same process in the current Excel will only work with selecting the rows -- selecting the sheet causes Excel to crash as well)
2. Data > Sort
3. Options tab: select sort left to right radio button
4. Sort Criteria tab: Sort key 1: Row 1
5. Click OK

Result: Sheet freezes for a few seconds and program closes
