Description flywire 2018-06-29 22:47:43 UTC
Description:
New documents are given a default filename of Untitled 1 (where 1 is a series number). It would be more reasonable to use the template filename followed by series number if filename already exists in directory (ie similar to MS Office). Currently I need to retain template filename, change extension (since new document is not a template) and save document to a new directory.

I notice the filename is displayed in File, Properties, General tab.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open calc template
2. Save file

Actual Results:
Saves as Untitled 1 (where 1 is a series number)

Expected Results:
Saves as actual TemplateFilename1 (where 1 is a series number)

Reproducible: Always

And how would you discriminate between MyAwesomeDocument files if the extension odt vs. ott is hidden? Renaming is not the supposed way to go, btw.
How should we deal with the default settings, ie. the inbuild "template"?
Why don't you use "Save as..." instead of Save, or rather change the default name from "Untitled 1" to "MyAwesomeText" in the dialog that pops up when you save the first time?

I'm rather against this change as "untiteled" is clearly describing the status while the template name could also be the actual given name. So closing this as WFM; feel free to reopen.

@Heiko Tietze you made your point. I don't think you need to mark it as resolved just because you wouldn't use this functionalty.

btw - M$ manage to use this functionality without the concerns you raise. I don't see any problems either.

I agree with Heiko

and from me a not wont fix because i love template that help me working.
But the naming off a document is still to me to give.
I have many different needs from my templates.
So use page styles and let that have a numeric following and not the default for all users that don't need it. Maybe 1 percent will have that need what your wishing, so sorry for a wont fix item.

someone else???
