Description Rob Lewis 2018-07-15 17:15:11 UTC
Description:
I would like to install v. 1.4.5 of the EXTENSION CorelPolyGUI. The website says that Mac users should install the standalone version. I'm unable to do this under macOS High Sierra. When I try to launch the jar file, it says it can't be launched. I searched online and one report said that the jar had to be made executable. I did that, and the launch attempt seemed to progress further, but still failed with the message "no main manifest attribute".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download the standalone version of CorelPolyGUI 1.4.5.
2. Double-clic the file CorelPolyGUIOffice.jar
3.

Actual Results:
File can't be launched

Expected Results:
Program is installed

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
[Information automatically included from LibreOffice]
Locale: en-US
Module: SpreadsheetDocument
[Information guessed from browser]
OS: Mac OS X (All)
OS is 64bit: no

: the standalone version isn't a LibreOffice extension, you hsould file your bug report against the corresponding project bug tracker.

For problems with the extension itself, please see:

Comment 2 Alex Thurgood 2018-07-16 06:53:52 UTC
@Rob : I can get this seemingly working for me on LibreOffice

Version: 6.0.5.2
Build ID: 54c8cbb85f300ac59db32fe8a675ff7683cd5a16
Threads CPU : 4; OS : Mac OS X 10.13.6; UI Render : par défaut;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Calc: group

1) Unzip the CorelPolyGUI zip file, enter the directory created via the Finder and right-mouse button click on the jar file and choose to open it with the Jar launcher app.

2) On first startup CorelPolyGUI creates a configuration file that is stored at the root of the user's home directory. Click on OK. The the GUI attempts to load, but moans that it can't find the path to the LibreOffice executable file. Click OK to remove the error message, but the GUI should nonetheless appear on your desktop.

3) There is a tab in the main window called Settings.

4) Click on Settings and select L/O/Office directory where the LO application executable can be found.

5)In my case, this is to be found in /Applications/LibreOffice.app/Contest/MacOS

6) Click on the button to confirm the directory you have selected, and restart CorelPolyGUI again. This time, it will take a little longer to be displayed, while it searches and starts LO (which should appear in the doc).

7) If you keep getting error messages about a missing L/O/Office directory then you have not set up the configuration file correctly. If you get any other error messages, please report them back here.

Thanks but still no go. Here are my exact steps:

1) Download CorelPolyGUI_1-4-5_standalone.zip and unarchive it
2) In the resulting CorelPolyGUI_1-4-5_standalone folder double-click the CorelPolyGUIOffice.jar file
3) The jar launcher tries to open it but shortly produces the message "The Java JAR file "CorelPolyGUIOffice.jar" could not be launched". I'm advised to check the Java console for possible error messages but so far I haven't found a way to display the console (In the Java Control Panel, I have checked the "Show Console" option but have never seen it appear).

Update: following a recommendation I found online, I tried to launch the .jar file from Terminal, with:

java -jar /Users/uname/Downloads/CorelPolyGUI_1-4-5_standalone/CorelPolyGUIOffice.jar

This produced the error message:

no main manifest attribute, in /Users/uname/Downloads/CorelPolyGUI_1-4-5_standalone/CorelPolyGUIOffice.jar
Comment 5 Alex Thurgood 2018-07-20 09:15:31 UTC
@Rob : if you can't get the standalone jar the file to open, then this is not a LibreOffice bug, rather you should report this to the standalone jar provider.

Closing as NOTOURBUG.
Comment 6 Alex Thurgood 2018-07-20 09:20:09 UTC
Note that the error you see might have something to do with the version of JDK you are using. However, it is completely unlinked to LibreOffice.

The standalone version recommended for Mac usage is just that - a standalone version - if the GUI doesn't start, then the problem is a Java configuration (or bug) one and not a LibreOffice one.
Comment 7 Alex Thurgood 2018-07-20 09:38:35 UTC
@Rob : on a separate machine (MacbookPro), I get the same error as you have been experiencing.

Quite why on my Macmini the jar launches correctly as I indicated in my previous response, but does not on my MBPro with macoS 10.13.6, requires further investigation. Nonetheless, the problem is not a LibreOffice one.
