Description andreas_k 2018-08-21 06:44:00 UTC
In writer the popupmenu's are updated but in all other apps I think it's missing.

The idea is to have an general layout and sorting on all apps. Maybe in some apps are other stuff available but the sorting and grouping arrangement is always the same.

the HIG https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/ContextMenu

Grouping and arrangement
------------------------
1st Group: cut, copy, paste, paste special
2rd Group: is Position and Size, Line, Area, ... from menubar -> Format -> graphic, shape, ... all are dialog actions
3th Group: are Caracter, paragraph, bullet and numbering from menubar -> Format all are dialog actions
4th Group: is the "edit" group where you have the edit options what you selected, arrangement is according to the menubar
5th Group: Anchor, Wrap, Align, Arrange and Group
6th Group: Caption or Label and Properties
7th Group: Styles

popupmenu writer for text

Should there be also the styles for title, header 1, 2, 3, ... as in the styles menubar entry?

popupmenu draw for shapes

As Impress support styles for shapes styles dialog was also included. Should the styles thing be the last one or before label, properties, ...

No, as paragraph styles are not supposed to be set via context menu.

I cannot follow you. Is the idea essentially to move Styles in Draw/Impress(?) to the bottom or do you plan to change more items? Actually, I think the context menus don't require much update for harmonization as they are _contextual_. Comparing Writer-Images with Draw-Shapes makes not much sense in this regard.

The question is where should styles be arranged at the end as shown in shape popup menu

What is the relationship between this Meta-Bug and META Bug 86349? Bug 119398 blocks bug 86349?
Comment 7 andreas_k 2018-08-22 07:31:15 UTC
Ah thanks no both are for the same context, so I will merge them.

My personal view is it's better to have single bug reports for found inconsistencies than a "general" discussion bug that confuse everyone.

I suppose there is some maybe unwritten "common idea" behind the growing of menus in the last years. Maybe we should read all the old discussions about context menus. Maybe Jay had written a Google docs document about it. :)

My experience is that all style sub-menus or "Edit Style" context menu items are at the bottom end of the context menus. I think that's a good position because style users don't have to search through the sometimes long context menus where the style item is located.

Do you have a concrete context menu in mind where the sorting isn't optimized?

Contextmenu for graphic, draw, media, oleobject and form

Overview about the main context modules that are available in Writer, Calc, Draw and Impress.

Other context menues are ordinary not available in the different apps so compare is not that usefull.
