Description: I love Libre Office but can't get past a bug on brochure printing. I select the document to print , I select double sided and Brochure from MORE. The brochure prints but the reverse side pages are always upside down and back to front. It seems that the "staple long or short side is set to the wrong option but there isn't one. I have tried selecting landscape or portrait in the document but of course a brochure has to be landscape any way, HELP ! Im on a macbook on El Capitan, but I can't find that in the options below. Actual Results: trytrytry Expected Results: tftrytry Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info:
Thank you for reporting the bug. it seems you're using an old version of LibreOffice. Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
Some information are missing, please add them: Which printer do you use? Is the printing correct, if you use double-sided but not brochure? Which operating system? Printing depends heavily on OS. Is the setting "Use only paper size form printer preferences" enabled or not? Which paper size has the printer, which page size has the document?
I have this same problem. The error (unwanted change) occurs when trying to set "print on both sides" when Writer is set for brochure printing. It does not happen otherwise. The dialog box is supplied by the printer driver. When the option to print on both sides is selected another option for page turning is presented. Various printer drivers label these options differently, but the effect is to either "flip up" or "flip sideways," or "turn-up," or "turn-sideways." In order to have a correctly printed book "turn-sideways," or "flip-sideways" etc. needs to be selected. Otherwise some of the pages are printed upside down when assembling the brochure (booklet). For some reason, Writer ALWAYS sets the selection to "flip-up" or "Turn-up" if printing on both sides of the page when brochure printing. If you select "flip-up" it stays that way, if you select "flip-sideways" it gets changed to "flip-up." The change occurs after the printer driver hands control back to Writer (You can check this by reopening the printer settings dialog box after you "save" settings and go back to writer's printer dialog box). Actual Results: upside down pages on half of brochure Expected Results: all pages up, with none upside down Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Per Henschel: Which printer do you use? HP 400 Color Laser Printer and HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 Is the printing correct, if you use double-sided but not brochure? Yes Which operating system? Windows 7 Ultimate Is the setting "Use only paper size form printer preferences" enabled or not? Does not matter. Incorrect no matter the setting. Which paper size has the printer, which page size has the document? 8x11 for both. If you are unfamiliar with brochure printing: Brochure printing takes a document normally designed for portrait A4 or 8x11 printing and prints the document in landscape mode with (usually) two pages (placed in two columns) per sheet. If you print many pages, it will print on both sides (if the printer can handle this) so that an assembled brochure will be in booklet format (i.e. like a little book).
Please make this report easier to confirm with steps and example brochure and also screenshot.
has there been any progress on this fault ?
Has there been any progress on this yet ?
(In reply to trevor p from comment #6) > Has there been any progress on this yet ? Questions like these are useless and get marked as "no-value". I remind you to respond to Comment 4.
(In reply to Timur from comment #4) > Please make this report easier to confirm with steps and example brochure > and also screenshot. My experience is exactly the same as in comment 3 . They describe the problem in great detail, the only difference is that I am using a Macbook pro on 10.11.6 and a Canon ip7250. I follow all the steps exactly as in comment 3 and the fault is exactly the same, the printer parameters are changed so that every other page prints upside down because the fold instruction has been reversed. The same printer produces perfect booklets/brochures using Windows 10 on a PC. Hope this helps. How would you like me to send an example of a wrongly printed brochure as if I send a file you will have to print it anyway. As the author of comment 3 points out the fault is constantly reproduceable so maybe the easiest way to demonstrate it is for you to try it for yourself. Many thanks Trevor Pilling.
Please, add the screenshots as requested in comment 4
Have you tried it for yourself yet. The problem is always reproduceable with whichever printer or pc/mac/os you choose, other contributors have submitted very detailed reports which coincide exactly with my experience.
This same problem occurs in Linux as well. Brochure print is not working correctly. Comment 3 outlines the problem in detail, and it happens that same way in Linux.
At the risk of being told off again, have you made any progress on solving this bug. You ask for examples etc. other contributors have described the error in great detail up to and including comment 11. Many thanks Trevor Pilling.

Half the brochure pages still upside down in version 6.2.3.2, do you have an address so that I can send a sample print out ?
(In reply to trevor p from comment #14) > Half the brochure pages still upside down in version 6.2.3.2, do you have an > address so that I can send a sample print out ? You can send it to me
That would be great, can you give me a postal address.
OK I have screen dumps, a wrongly printed brochure, a file copy on CD. I just need your Postal address ( unless you can teleport four printed pages by email !) Many thanks, Trevor.
Hi Xisco, just waiting for your address to send samples, I can't send a double sided printout by email. As the whole problem depends on how the flip instruction is carried out, to send separate copies of two sides of a piece of paper would be futile, you would not be able to see how the two sides relate to each other. I guess that you are in Berlin but I can't find out any more, Regards Trevor Pilling.
Hi Xisco, not sure whether you got my request for your postal address, regards Trevor Pilling.
Hi Xisco, still waiting for your postal address to send some sample print outs. I am not sure whether you get these messages or not. I will try to find an address for The Document Foundation, Regards Trevor Pilling.

Hi Xisco, did you get the samples by post ?
Hi Xisco, did you ever receive the printed samples of the brochure error by post ? Have you made any progress in sorting out the problem ? Am I wasting my time contacting you ? Trevor Pilling.
(In reply to trevor p from comment #23) > Hi Xisco, did you ever receive the printed samples of the brochure error by > post ? Have you made any progress in sorting out the problem ? Am I wasting > my time contacting you ? Trevor Pilling. Hi Trevor, Yep, it seems the TDF office receive them. They will give them to me in person at the conference in Almeria, at the beginning of September
Thank you Xisco, enjoy Almeria.
Hi Xisco, how was Almeria ? Did you ever get the error samples. Any progress yet on the Brochure printing error ?
Brochure printing works for me. When we have problems it is because we needed to select printer properties, click on 'duplex printing' and select 'On (Flip on short edge). We have our page size set to 5.5x8.5 and then print two pages on a single side of the 8.5x11 paper. Perhaps the problem is because the same page size is being used for both the document and for the brochure. (Does LibreOffice scale page sizes?) LibreOffice 6.3.3.2 Linux mint 18.04 or Windows 7 Dell c2660dn printer
Thanks Chuck, yes it works fine for me on one page but not when printing a brochure, perhaps 20 pages. I have sent samples to bugzilla with no response. I have given up on them now.
Trevor, we do print 12 or 16 or 20 page brochures this way. Each 8.5x11 sheet of paper has 4 5.5x8.5 pages printed on it, 2 on the front and 2 on the back. For a 16 page brochure it uses 4 sheets of paper.
