In ancient times, regexes were enabled for F&R, bug 37494. This was apparently a mistake, which was later corrected, see Caolán's explanation in https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122764#c3

Regex supports needs to be reimplemented in a fully working way.
