Description miguel 2019-02-28 00:18:17 UTC
Description:
I normal boot my Windows 10 pc or I wake my pc from sleep mode. As I work with docs from either writer or calc, LO will freeze with notation at the top of LO: "Libreoffice not responding". LO screen fades to a lighter white and does not respond; happens when I try to save or close LO after a few minutes of use. I have tried resetting the profile, not usine OpenGL, not using hardware acceleration. I have uninstalled both 64 bit versions and 6.0 and 6.1; installed the 32 bit version, and still LO freezes. I have a 250 GB SSD, 8GB RAM; plenty of hard drive space, lots of RAM available; still freezing. I don't get this freezing on my old Linux pc or my old Win XP Pro pc. The freezing also occurred when I first istalled LO 5.4 on this Windows 10 pc; that's why I upgraded to 6.0.

Actual Results:
Listed above in my description.

Expected Results:
Not freeze after using for a few minutes.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Could you give a try to last stable LO version 6.1.5
+ if you still reproduce this, could you give a look to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps ?

Do you have mapped drives or links to the network without connection?

I installed both the 32 bit and 64 bit version of LO 6.1.5 and I still had the LO not responding message at the top of the window. Before each install, I used CCleaner to delete temp files and trash, then I cleaned the registry; rebooted and installed both versions of LO 6.1. I used CCleaner again after uninstalling the 64 bit version of LO 6.1; then downloaded LO 6.2, rebooted my Win 10 pc before installing the 64 bit version of LO 6.2. The 6.2 version seems to be working more normally; so far. I have been using the 6.2 version for almost two hours and no issues so far. I opened several spreadsheets and two write docs; then began closing first the writer docs, then a couple of spreadsheets. I closed all docs without any issue; no message that LO not responding. Wow. Thank God! I will continue to monitor for the couple of days to see if I encounter any further "not responding" messages.

I do not have any mapped drives. I do not have any links to our home network. As far as I know, I don't. If I do, I wouldn't know where or what to look for.

I did do the safe boot about 10 days ago and deleted the profile, when I was on LO 6.0 and 6.1. That did not work; I still received the LO not responding message.

If I well understood, you had still pb with 6.0 and 6.1 even with safe mode but everything is ok for the moment with LO 6.2.1. ?

Hello miguel,
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

I had to uninstall the 6.x versions. I was working the end of March thru April 15, 2019 on business tax returns and I needed my spreadsheet to work. I went back to LO 5.4.7 32 bit version, as I had to have a working program. The 6.0 versions kept freezing and I would have to force shut down LO or reboot my pc. I just felt I was waiting too long to get my time crunch work done. I apologize for not responding sooner. I have a lull the next few weeks. I will try the latest fresh version as you have requested, in the next couple of days; today if I can. I have one client who needs some quarterly payroll tax reports today. I will see how the latest fresh version works for me.

Miguel.

You can also try a daily build, which will install separately: https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86_64@62-TDF/current/

By the way, you should probably not use CCleaner - it can mess up your system.

I upgraded my Win 10 Home pc to LO 6.3. the non responsiveness continues to happen but not as bad. The non response does not last as long; I still get the lightened screen, with LO not responding at the top, but not quite as long. LO 6.3 is better than versions 6.2 and 6.1.

Personally, I think it is the Win 10 Home OS and my hardware. I don't have or use MS office or any other MS software; other than what comes with Win 10 Home; much of the Windows apps I have turned off. I think Win 10 does not like not having other Office suite software installed. I find the problem with LO being not responding, mostly when I use my Intuit ProSeries Income Tax software; always causes the LO not responding. Intuit ProSeries is heavily attached to IE and Microsoft Windows it seems. If I use the ProSeries help links in the software, it wants to only use Internet Explorer or EDGE; been that way for 15 years (began when using TurboTax, which an Intuit product).

The only other issue/problem that could be causing the issues, that I know of is: I use Seamonkey (browser and email) and LO 6.1 portable off of my external hard drive; for security purposes; most of the time. LO 6.1 portable works better than the hard drive installs of LO 6.x. I don't get as much of the LO not responding messages; but then again, I am not usually using the Intuit ProSeries during these times. The portable LO versions have worked much better (using thru PortableApps on my external hard drive). I think Win 10 Home (and yes, with all current updates installed for Win 10), does not really do well with some multi-tasking. the problem with not good multi-tasking may be with my hardware and Win 10 pc.

Mostly, I see the LO not responding, when I am using LO from my internal C: hard drive and my external drive while using my portable apps.

I hope this helps. But, thankfully, LO 6.3 is working much better with not as much LO not responding.

Thank you all for your kind and prompt assistance. You all do such great work. God Bless!

Thanks, I guess we should close this for now as you suspect other software might contribute to the resource problem
