Description Cathy Crumbley 2019-05-08 01:02:00 UTC
Using Version 6.2.3.2

In the Position and Size dialog of Chart, the options to adapt height or width to fit text do not seem relevant. In fact, they are grayed out.

Steps to see this:
1.) Click once on a chart to select it (example file is attached)
2.) Right click on the chart
3.) Select Position and Size to open the dialogue

I would not expect to see the options to fit width and height to text because they do not seem to work for Chart and are grayed out.

For documentation, it would be great to show a screenshot of the corrected dialog so it would not be necessary to explain that the options do not work.

If I am mistaken and these options do work in Chart, then I would appreciate some clarification of when/how they are activated.

Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice

Confirmed with LO 6.2.4.2.

However, now there is an unexpected wrinkle. I noticed that not only is the Adapt section grayed out; the Protect section, that contains options for position and size, is also grayed out.

I checked all 10 chart types in 6.2.4.2, 6.2.0.2, and 6.1.6.3. All of them show the Protect section grayed out.

The thing is that the screenshot I attached to this bug report shows that the Protect section is not grayed out. I even remember testing it briefly. When I test with the attached LO file (which was used to create the screenshot), the Protect section is now grayed out.

I cannot figure out what was different when I created the screenshot. I was probably using basic column charts--nothing fancy. I cannot think of anything significant that has changed about my setup.

I am not sure if there is anything more I can do about this little mystery. I cannot identify what causes the Protect section to be grayed out and, if my memory is correct, it works when it is not grayed out.

I would like to know what others think.

Xisco,
It just occurred to me that I may have inadvertently changed the status to New rather than to Unconfirmed. Did you happen to change the status? My apologies if I made a mistake.

Hi Cathy,

Some precisions about the Position and Size dialog:
This dialog is commun to several graphic objects(chart, shape, Text box...).
It seems that only Text box allows the use of Adapt options.
If you open a small Box(hight as a cell, and half a cell wide), type one word inside, then open the Position and Size dialog, tick Fit width to text, your box will adapt to it.
This is not available with Position and Size for Chart and so grayed out.
Protection options are abailables for me. I don't reproduce your problem.
I join the modified attachment. Chart contains a protected text box and is also protected.
