Description Bill Dietrich 2019-05-20 16:57:55 UTC
Connected an Android phone to my Linux Mint 19.1 system. Phone appears as an MTP device. In Nemo file explorer, double-clicked on a DOCX file on the phone. LibreOffice splash screen appeared, but then LibreOffice closed, no further window or message appeared, LibreOffice not shown in Alt-Tab list of running apps. Same DOCX file is opened fine by LibreOffice Writer if I first move the file to PC's hard disk.

Works fine here

Arch Linux 64-bit
Version: 6.3.0.4
Build ID: 6.3.0-2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.2; UI render: default; VCL: kde5;
Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

Can you try with LibreOffice 6.4.x?

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.

Just tried with LibreOffice Version: 6.4.3.2
Build ID: 747b5d0ebf89f41c860ec2a39efd7cb15b54f2d8
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

I'm running Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon with 5.3.0-46-generic kernel.

Smartphone is attached to PC, I put files test1.odt and test1.docx in folder mtp://%5Busb%3A002,003%5D/Internal%20storage/Android/data

If I launch LibreOffice Writer from PC's start menu, I can do File/Open and open those files and see the contents, no problem. Filenames in title bar have "(remote)" appended to them.

If I go into Nemo file manager on the PC, go to that folder in the phone, and double-click on either of the files, I see the LibreOffice splash-screen appear for a few seconds, then it goes away, never get anything else or LibreOffice Writer app.

Is there some kind of logging I can turn on, so I can send a log to you ?

Note: I'm planning to change OS to Ubuntu 20.04 in a week or so, so my test environment will change.

Hmm, it seems you would need to somehow log what Nemo is doing. One thing you could test is open up a terminal and then do

libreoffice /path/to/your/file/in/mtp

...to see what happens.

In terminal, did:

    libreoffice mtp://%5Busb%3A002,003%5D/Internal%20storage/Android/data/test1.docx

and same thing happened: splash screen showed for a couple of seconds, then nothing, back to shell prompt. No messages of any kind.
Comment 6 Bill Dietrich 2020-04-20 10:07:32 UTC
Same thing happens if I give a totally bogus path:

    libreoffice xxx://yyy

No messages, just splash screen for a few seconds and then back to shell prompt.
