When I opened Rizal's pdf file with PDF X-Change Editor 7.0 build 328.2
I cannot see the emoji character.

When I opened the pdf with a text editor, there exist a line like

<</Type/FontDescriptor/FontName/BAAAAA+NotoColorEmoji

---

When I opened Rizal's odt file with Writer and export as a pdf,
I was able to see the character correctly displayed on PDF X-Change Editor.

When I opened my pdf with a text editor, there exists a line like

<</Type/FontDescriptor/FontName/BAAAAA+EmojiOneColorSVGinOT

When I tried to install noto color fonts from

https://github.com/googlefonts/noto-emoji/tree/4e5cf1ca8d9d38a2a9c72c284be5e3fba28cec87/fonts

Windows 10 on my machine indicates NotoColorEmoji.ttf is not a valid font file.

Works fine for me. The font is shown for me as EmojiOne Color. Rizal: it appears you do not have EmojiOne Color installed and it has been substituted with Noto Color Emoji. Could you try after installing EmojiOne Color?

The cause is Noto Fonts not having fallback glyph defined on Arch.

Using installed EmojiOne Color font, the image show black and white in bothPDF and ODT also.

Why Noto version use color in ODT?
Comment 15 Alberto Salvia Novella 2020-04-30 23:22:13 UTC
I confirm fonts are broken in Arch. But I won't help Arch fix it, cause the worst entitled assholes on the face of Earth live there.

So I guess they are smart enough to fix it themselves 😎
Comment 16 Buovjaga 2020-05-01 07:05:01 UTC
Rizal is not using Arch Linux, but Ubuntu. Perhaps the cause is the same, though.
