Letters are overlapping

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open LibreOffice Impress
2. Type any non english word (In my instance, I typed in Tamil. To get this, follow the below steps)
    2.1. Open browser
    2.2. Go to translate.google.com
    2.3. In Left panel, type in English
    2.4. In right panel, choose Tamil as Language
    2.5. Now, type 'Vanakkam' in left panel
    2.6. Copy the Tamil content
3. Paste the Tamil content in Impress as bullet point
4. Observe letters are overlapping, which is completely unreadable.

For reproducing - Have a bullet point and type in Tamil. In headings, it works fine.
Comment 2 Ming Hua 2019-11-25 01:40:24 UTC
I can reproduce this on Windows 10 with LO 6.2.8, using sample text "தமிழில்" (copied from bug 129001).

Version: 6.2.8.2 (x64)
Build ID: f82ddfca21ebc1e222a662a32b25c0c9d20169ee
CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: default; VCL: win;
Locale: zh-CN (zh_CN); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

The overlapping only happens for Outline style, and is fine for Title, Subtitle, and Notes.

Screenshot of 6.4.0 beta1 on Windows 10

Strange, I can reproduce here with 6.4.0 beta1 as well.

Version: 6.4.0.0.beta1 (x64)
Build ID: 4d7e5b0c40ed843384704eca3ce21981d4e98920
CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 18363; UI render: GL; VCL: win;
Locale: zh-CN (zh_CN); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

I tried turning on default CTL language (set to Tamil), turning on OpenGL, and restarting in safe mode, none of them made any difference.

Maybe it's font-related? I'll try a different Tamil font later today.
Comment 6 Ming Hua 2019-11-27 10:31:07 UTC
I think I made some progress on reproducing this.

After turning on CTL language in Tools -> Options, if I choose the overlapping text and look at its font (Format -> Character...), the CTL font shows "Arial". After changing it to a font that actually provides Tamil characters, e.g. Nirmala UI, the overlapping disappears.

I pasted the Tamil text with "Edit -> Paste Special -> Paste Unformatted Text", so I have no idea why the font is automatically set to Arial. Also, when pasting Tamil text into Title style, the CTL font is also set to Arial, but no overlapping happens.

@Xisco, can you try changing the font of the text to Arial manually and see if you can reproduce the overlapping?

Thank you for reporting the bug. I cannot reproduce this in

Version: 6.4.0.0.alpha1+ (x86)
Build ID: ec7374ff84c71edfbb30d6e4dc5b486b6df7107f
CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 6.1 Service Pack 1 Build 7601; UI render: default; VCL: win;
TinderBox: Win-x86@42, Branch:master, Time: 2019-11-10_21:37:30
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

But, in version
LibreOffice 3.3.0
OOO330m19 (Build:6)
tag libreoffice-3.3.0.4

I can see the overlap.

Looks like we can close this.
