Description Dave 2019-12-14 16:11:19 UTC
Description:
Apologies if this is the wrong place to report bugs in the online help guide. I could not find anything on the help page itself to report errors and corrections.

My bug report is for the LibreOffice 6.2 instructions for changing the page background. https://help.libreoffice.org/6.2/en-US/text/swriter/guide/pagebackground.html?&DbPAR=WRITER&System=WIN#bm_id8431653

Step 6 in the instructions says to 'click the Background tab'. There is no background tab that I can find in my version of Writer. Instead, I was able to solve it with the following procedure:

Follow instructions as outlined for steps 1 - 5. Starting from 6, use this:
6. Click the Area tab.
7. From the buttons at the top, click Bitmap.
8. In the Bitmap column below, click Add/Import and choose your file.
9. Choose options as desired and click OK.

Hopefully this change can be made to the help guide to make things a little clearer for the next person who wants to change a page background for a particular page style.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new page style
2. Modify the new page style
3. Look for the Background tab as referenced in the help guide

Actual Results:
There is no background tab.

Expected Results:
Expected to have a background tab as mentioned in the help guide.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I have proposed a solution in the description section of this report.

#tdf129407 corrected tab name for changing page background
Comment 4 Dave 2019-12-16 01:29:52 UTC
There's actually more to it than just the tab name. The steps after clicking the area tab have also changed. This is the way I was able to accomplish changing the background image:

Follow instructions as outlined for steps 1 - 5. Starting from 6, use this:
6. Click the Area tab.
7. From the buttons at the top, click Bitmap.
8. In the Bitmap column below, click Add/Import and choose your file.
9. Choose options as desired and click OK.

The diff only shows step 6 being changed.

Please revise to include the remaining steps as well.

Thanks.

The existing help page has:

"In the list box at the top, select whether you want a solid color or a graphic. Then select your options from the tab page."

I believe this explanation includes (and exceeds) your procedure, because "graphic" presumably includes gradient, bitmap, pattern and hatch.

If think this description is wrong, then you should change the status to REOPENED.

@Olivier -- do you see a need to elaborate the procedure?

After a second look, I would agree that the remaining steps are fine as-is, except for #7. #7 starts off with "in the listbox". There is no listbox. The selections are now individual buttons. I would argue for changing step #7 as well to start "From the buttons" or something like that.

Ok. Have a look:

Maybe everything is all right now?

I tested it in the 6.2.8.2 of Writer and it looks good. Thanks much.
