Description: I have tried the provided functionality out again together with the software combination “LibreOffice Writer 6.3.3.2-865.16”. Steps to Reproduce: I can create a simple chart in an empty document. Actual Results: A diagram is displayed based on values which can be modified by the dialogue “Data table”. https://help.libreoffice.org/6.3/en-GB/text/schart/main0000.html But the button “Data areas” is deactivated (greyed out) in the tool bar. Expected Results: I would like to choose an other data source for the chart object. * Construct an additional table within the current document. * Refer to an external file. okay, now I get where you are aiming at. A reference to an external spreadsheet can be set up via Menu Insert | Object | OLE | "import from file" but I understand you are asking for a way to 1) change the data source of an existing diagram in Writer after it was created AND 2) have a diagram refer to another table object within the same writer document Is that correct? As a workaround you can use two external spreadsheet files where file A contains the data table and file B contains the diagram (sourcing it's data from file A). You can then insert both files via OLE into your writer document, respectively, to get any combination of data sources and diagrams.

Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

Confirmed that it is not possible to switch between Data Table and Data Ranges when editing a chart in Writer. I can see how that could be useful: writer is the one component that allows both data sources. Not sure if this bug needs UX eval?
