Opening a file from Document thumbnails at the start center is very slow. When quitting LibreOffice totally (closing the start center) and then opening a file (double-click on the file icon), performance are back to normal.
Opening a file from Document thumbnails at the start center is very slow. When clicking the icon in the 'start center' and then minimizing the 'start center' window curiously accelerates the opening of the file.

In that case, it might be a profile related problem. To be certain the reported issue is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and re-test? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present
I started LibreOffice in safe mode. This doesn't solve the performance problem.
I restarted in safe mode and made "Reset to factory settings" and "reset entire user profile". The issue remains.

Bingo ! Starting from command line : SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice6.4 made the the start center perform super fast. I tried it with the latest version: Version: 6.4.3.2 Build ID: 747b5d0ebf89f41c860ec2a39efd7cb15b54f2d8 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 4.4; UI render: default; VCL: x11; Locale: nl-BE (en_US.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US Calc: threaded Opening documents when clicking on the thumbnail of the start center is fast. Might be interesting, if you tried with 7.0.0 alpha version as an appimage: https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/ (easy way, no need to install anything)

Sounds like the problem I reported in bug 133625, but could never really track down. My guess was that it was related to my desktop environment (Cinnamon), or because I had folders mounted to a samba server. Vincent - if you are still having the problems, does it help if you open a second document from the start centre while you are waiting for the first to load? Even doing that with the same document seemed to work nicely for me.
Hello Justin, I'm on LibreOffice 7.0.3 and there are no problems anymore. I had also folders mounted to a server. I was on Linux Mint Cinnamon. Thanks.
