Description Robert Kaiser 2020-02-16 16:55:10 UTC
When I try to copy a range of cells from one sheet to another, nothing is actually pasted in the target.

Steps to reproduce:

- Open calc
- Create a second sheet
- Put random content into some cells on the first sheet
- Mark the range of cells containing the content and click "copy"
- Go to the second sheet
- Paste content

-> Nothing happens (visually, as "undo" show "insert"s but they change nothing)

I'm seeing this on two computers on libreoffice-6.4.0.3-2.2.x86_64.rpm from current openSUSE Tumbleweed (20200214). I'm using LibreOffice within KDE Plasma desktop on X11/Xorg (all very current versions as this is a rolling distro), if that may have any connection.

I notice that as long as I'm on sheet 1, the status line says "Selected: x rows, y columns" but that disappears when I go to sheet 2. When I immediately switch back to sheet 1, no cell range is selected any more and the dashed line for the copied area is gone as well. When trying to paste, neither pressing Enter nor the Paste icon works.
Interestingly, copying within a single sheet works correctly.

FWIW, that the copied content is not reflected in the clipboard is something I noticed as well but that's bug 125534 and independent of this new issue.

This process of copying between sheets has worked in previous releases (unfortunately I don't know when this started for me exactly, but I'm pretty sure it worked just a few weeks ago, but unsure what version change was in between).
Comment 1 Robert Kaiser 2020-02-16 16:57:34 UTC
Oh, FWIW, I found that as a work-around, I can actually user drag&drop to copy the cell range to the other sheet.

I cannot reproduce with:

Sorry, it looks like I forgot in my STR the step between "Open calc" and "Create a second sheet".
That one is "Create a NEW DOCUMENT".

So, that means, no sample document needed to reproduce for me at least, on those two Linux machines.
That said, it also happens to me with any other document, but even for an empty new one.

As comment #2 says, it seems to work on Windows (which is good in general, bad for reproducing my issue), so this issue may be either Linux-only or (hopefully not, but possibly) even specific to the openSUSE build.

No problem for me with a nearly identical environment.

Just a thought: do you have Klipper running: https://userbase.kde.org/Klipper ? I deactivated it because it was messing with the clipboard in surprising ways.

Yep, try disabling the Plasma clipboard thing.

You seem to misunderstand. On 2020-05-09, I asked you to try disabling KDE Plasma's clipboard application with the intention of learning if this has any effect on what you were seeing. You never replied and thus the report was closed automatically after 7 months.
Comment 13 Robert Kaiser 2020-12-07 13:32:21 UTC
FWIW, disabling Klipper temporarily worked but it's no solution, it's a debugging data point (I felt you proposed it as a potential solution - sorry if I took that the wrong way).
And actually, I made using the drag&drop workaround my habit now, so I don't actually see the issue in daily use (and I just had to do consciously go in and try the normal c&p way again to confirm the bug still happens with LO 7.0.3.1), even if my habits have become a bit more cumbersome.
Comment 14 Buovjaga 2021-01-09 13:02:46 UTC
Now I tried on KDE Plasma with Klipper activated and the steps from the description work fine.

Unfortunately, in LO 7.1.0.3 as provided by openSUSE Tumbleweed, I still can reproduce the issue just as before (in combination with Plasma 5.21.0).
Copying from one LO Calc document/window to the other works with normal copy&paste, copying between different sheets in a single document does not work that way and is only possible via drag&drop (with modifier key).
Comment 17 Buovjaga 2021-02-27 14:36:21 UTC
You could ask, if folks from the openSUSE user community can reproduce it.

I just downloaded LO:
Version: 7.3.2.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 49f2b1bff42cfccbd8f788c8dc32c1c309559be0
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.8; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

And installed it i my home directory separate from the distro install

I tried to copy a column of data from one sheet to a new sheet in the same document and nothing happens. Nothing at all is pasted.
This has bugged me a lot in prev versions so I was hoping a direct install would fix it but it doesn't

openSUSE Leap 15.3 / (x86_64)
Installed Memory 8G
KDE 5.76.0 Plasma 5.18.6
Qt: 5.12.7
Comment 20 Buovjaga 2022-04-25 18:04:41 UTC
I think your best bet is to get openSUSE developers involved.

I can't except that there seems to be something in the openSUSE KDE distro that brings this about. As I said in an earlier comment, Arch Linux with KDE does not exhibit this even with Klipper active.
Comment 23 Timur 2022-09-13 12:01:11 UTC
I don't reproduce with openSUSE Tumbleweed X11.
KDE Plasma 5.25.5 KDE Frameworks 5.97.0 Qt: 5.15.5 LO 7.4.1.1

You may try with LO user profile reset i.e. LO user folder rename.
If that doesn't help, please report to openSuse that packages LO for the distro.
If you do, please write a result here.

I don't see a purpose of keeping this open, as it's hardly a problem that can be fixed in LO.

After updating TW this went away so, yes, it should be closed
Thanks
