Description kyle.vivian7 2020-02-26 05:22:54 UTC
Description:
When I input the correct command 'vec{x}' I get a strange dotted circle over the x. The vector arrow shows up, but is displaced by the circle so it is up and to the right of where it should be. It almost looks like the arrow is superscript to the circle above the letter.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert Formula object on Writer, Calc, or Impress
2. Type 'vec{x}'

Actual Results:
An 'x' was printed with a dotted circle above it with an arrow apparently superscript to that circle

Expected Results:
An 'x' should have been printed with an arrow above it.

Reproducible: Always

On Win10 with LO 6.3.4.2 (x64), I don't reproduce this.

Could you give a try at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps ?

Just to be sure, do you use LO 64 or 32 bits? Indeed, you put "6.3.4.2 (x64)" in description but x86 (IA32) in Hardware Field.

Same on debian x64.
It could be a x86 related bug ( have different implementations on basic typechars), but I know the starmath parser pretty well and don't see where cold be an error.
Could be a font error ( a composed surrogated error )?

Please, if possible tell me your win version and the fonts you're using on LO math.

My version LO is 6-4-6-2 (x64)and the last Windows10. I use Liberation Serif police for formulas.

I Guess you're using the stable version.

Downloaded it and opened it LO 7.0 on fedora 32. Also using liberation serif. The cache image of the equation was clearly wrong, but corrected itself after open/close the equation.

I did see some bugs like this, when I did change the opensymbol font for STIX two math (changing the LO code). It had the arrow over dots circle for vector arrow with nothing to be upon ( a composed surrogated error since the second char is missing ). However opensymbol is the font used for all math symbols and can not be changed, so that's why it's strange.

I know it can't be an error related withe settings, because the font name ( opensymbol ) is directly written inside the code. That makes it even more strange because if it was a general bug, I believe we would got a massive error report.

Marking it as NEW, but don't really know where the bug could be. I'm sorry I can-t help.

I can reproduce this bug in 7.2.0.4 when substituting OpenSymbol by STIX Two Math. When using OpenSymbol, this problem goes away.

Dear kyle.vivian7,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
