Created attachment 158838 [details] Video of the bug Hello, When trying to use ATAN with the LibreOffice language set to Norsk bokmål (Nynorsk is not affected), one gets either: - "#NAVN?" if the cell is validated while the cursor is at the end of the formula, or - "Feil: 508" if the cell is validated while the cursor is at after ATAN. In this case, the formula is turned into "=ATAN (ATAN på engelsk)(A1/B1)" (or similar). LibreOffice Calc successfully loads a file with a preexisting ATAN formula, the problem shows up when actually typing the formula from a LibreOffice Calc set to bokmål. Steps to reproduce: - Install the Norwegian bokmål language for LibreOffice - Open LibreOffice Calc - Ensure that LibreOffice is in bokmål, or set the language to Norwegian bokmål and agree to restart - type 1 in cell A1 - type 1 in cell A2 - type "=ATAN(A1/A2)" (without the quotes) in A3 All ARC mathematical functions seem affected (ACOT, ACOTH, ASIN, ASINH, ATAN, ATAN2, ATANH). Please see the video for an illustration of the bug. Known affected operating systems: Windows and GNU/Linux Have a good day!
I added suggestions to the translations of the affected functions, in the hope it will fix this bug.
Seems some inventive translator got hand on that.. translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ASIN" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ASIN (ASIN på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ATAN" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ATAN (ATAN på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ACOT" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ACOT (ACOT på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ASINH" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ASINH (ASINH på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ATANH" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ATANH (ATANH på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ACOTH" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ACOTH (ACOTH på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "ATAN2" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "ATAN2 (ATAN2 på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "VAR.P" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "VARIANSP (VARP på engelsk)" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "LOGNORM.DIST" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "LOGNORM .FORD" -- translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po:msgid "RAWSUBTRACT" translations/source/nb/formula/messages.po-msgstr "RÅTT UTDRAG" As a workaround you can switch to "Use English function names" under Tools -> Options -> Calc -> Formula.
Thanks for the workaround, it might be useful outside the scope of this bug ☺. I suggested the person who ran into this bug to temporarily switch LO's language, I'll let them know this workaround.
Raphaël: if I well understood and comparing with Nynorsk: - ASIN, ATAN, ACOT, ASINH, ATANH, ACOTH, ATAN2 functions should be the same in Norsk bokmål - VAR.P => VARIANS.P (since we've got already VARP => VARIANSP) - LOGNORM.DIST => LOGNORM.FORD - RAWSUBTRACT => RÅSUBTRAKSJON (should we put the same as Nynorsk?) You talked about suggestions, could you indicate where you put these? Just for information LO has been using Weblate for translation since some months (it was Pootle before) Indeed, I checked this one for example: https://translations.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_ui-master/formulamessages/nb_NO/?checksum=ced5d997711ea2a0 I didn't see any suggestion (or missed it?)
I did put my suggestions in Weblate anonymously. I will use freshly created account to do it again. As for the Norwegian language itself, I don't speak it, though it might be a good idea to look at what Excel does?
My suggestions show up here: https://translations.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_ui-master/formulamessages/nb_NO/?q=has:suggestion
I can't edit, probably because I'm not part of the Norwegian translation team.
(In reply to Raphaël Jakse from comment #6) > My suggestions show up here: > https://translations.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_ui-master/ > formulamessages/nb_NO/?q=has:suggestion I validated this one but then I saw that "ACOS" was translated "INVERS.COS". Just wonder if "ASIN" should be translated to "INVERS.ASIN", etc. About your suggestion concerning Excel, can you indicate what they do in these cases?
For information, I sent a mail to Olav (nb translator) asking him to have a look.
(In reply to sophie from comment #9) > For information, I sent a mail to Olav (nb translator) asking him to have a > look. Looking at Weblate it seems noting has been done in the past month, for example https://translations.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_ui-master/formulamessages/nb_NO/?checksum=5cce0e1a9f8bfa9c#suggestions Is there someone other than Olav that we can contact? Or should we just go ahead and change all the broken function names mentioned in comment #2 back to English? It seems Nynorsk is using the English names anyway.
Or would the efforts in bug 128200 fix this with all other languages? I'm a bit out of loop but remember reading on l10n list that all strings there that are not fixed by translators will be reverted back to English in the near future.

I sent another mail to nb reviewers for both issues.
Raphaël: do you still reproduce the pb with last LO version 7.1.4 ?

Hellon Sorry, I forgot to respond. I just checked, I don't reproduce the problem anymore on LibreOffice 7.2. Thanks! Raphaël
