This sounds like a very welcome addition, so setting to NEW
+1 from me!
Created attachment 174489 [details] Screenshot showing the tooltip in Excel This feature is still not implemented in LO 7.2. As a frequent user of LO Calc myself, I really feel this is a must-have feature. In Excel (see attached ODG file), the tooltip shows: - Name of the data series - Point number - Point value I believe we can have an even better tooltip in LO, because IMO the one in Excel doesn't look nice.
We do show the values in a tooltip. Works in Calc and Writer/Chart. Is this not working for you?

Hi Heiko, it does not work for me. See the new attached PNG file. If I double-click the chart and position the mouse in the data series, it only shows a tooltip with the name of the series. It does not show the (x, y) values. I am using LO 7.2.0 on KDE. The deficit of LibreOffice is that the tooltip is only shown if the chart is activated. Excel shows the tooltip when hovering the inactivated chart.
Created attachment 174496 [details] Sample ODS file (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #7) > That's how it looks with chart type "Points and Lines" or "Bars". No point > label for "Lines Only", but that's likely not what you've done. I attached the ODS file with the chart. In LO even if I activate the chart and point the mouse to a value point, it only shows the data series name, not the value nor the point number. However, if I open this ODS file in Excel (I did not even convert it to XLSX), it does show a tooltip with the point number and value. I believe this is a feature worth adding to LO as well.
(In reply to Rafael Lima from comment #9) > I attached the ODS file with the chart. Change the chart type and you get the tooltip. Lines only have no points.
> Change the chart type and you get the tooltip. Lines only have no points. Hi Heiko... It works when changing the chart type to "Points and Lines" as you said. Hence this is not a bug. However, it would be good to be able to show tooltips with data values in the "Lines only" chart to improve compatibility with Excel. Suppose the user does not want any "points" in the chart but still wants to be able to see tooltips with data values, as is currently possible in Excel. IMO it would be a good feature to add.
At least it wont affect usability :-)
Was the same in OOo 3.3, so inherited. Still needed in recent trunk build: Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: f95c3994f0b6a82a3bc2ddfb68822b74479ae185 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
