Description list@lodilo.com 2020-04-07 16:11:14 UTC
Description:
Hi!

I've been using Libreoffice for a few years. Sometimes I have
noticed
that it does not conserve the formatting of Word files from MS
Office,
especially when there are columns.

Now a client told me that the format is often messed up in files
they
receive back from me after revision. It seems to be the case with
text
colour, font size, bullet lists, "Markierungen" (markings - might be
marking colours behind words or word groups, or maybe track changes
... ?)

Here is a file that would not work in MS Office again. Sorry that I
cannot send you the complete original, before and after my revision,
but
it is client content of course.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Wordfile
2. Save file from Libreoffice
3. Send file to client
4. Client complains about messed up bullet lists, text font or size or colour etc

Actual Results:
Please see above. Format gets messed up just by using Libreoffice. Even in relatively simple formatting.

Expected Results:
Customer complaints.

Reproducible: Didn't try

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Keeping the formatting at least in relatively straightforward docs.

Cannot find the file I prepared, where there was missing formatting... Anyway it concerned fonts and bullet lists.

You need to attach source file (only ODT from LO or DOC/X from MSO), you may obfuscate content replacing with X. Without file, this cannot be confirmed.

Thank you for reporting the bug. It seems you're using an old version of LibreOffice. Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.

There is also one basic rule in Bugzilla: One bug report for each problem. So if the document contains several issues (you've mentioned text colour, font size, bullet lists) please use different reports. Unfortunately we have many bugs regarding compatibility with doc(x) format. So it would be fine to check for duplicates to avoid double work. See meta bug 104520.

This may be a single problem, but report is so wrong and unclear.

> Steps to Reproduce:
> 1. Open Wordfile
What's that? ODT, DOC or DOCX?
> 2. Save file from Libreoffice
Save as WHAT? ODT, DOC or DOCX?
> 3. Send file to client
WRONG. Open in which software?
> 4. Client complains about messed up bullet lists, text font or size or
> colour etc
You need to be exact or to attach side-to-side screenshot.

I don't quite know how to report or reproduce or eliminate other sources of messed up format, especially without exposing clients docs. So please anyone who sees this might delete this bug report - sorry, I don't find the function to do this.
