Description necane 2020-04-10 22:11:52 UTC
Description:
I layed out a novel in libreoffice, hours, and getting really desperate with the footnotes and page numbers. But I made it, and it looked beautiful.
I save the .odt, and converted it to .pdf, the conversion was good.

When I opened the .odt again it was completely unformatted, text without justification, other type of font, there aren't drops caps in the beginning of every chapter, and of course the pages aren't numbered.

Hours of work gone...

If it helps reproducing it, I used the drop caps in 42 chapters, and I used the Linux Biolinum Keyboard O font for the numbers of every chapter. Maybe this was too much for the program and overloaded.

Sorry for my English, is not my mother tongue and it's my first time writing in here.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Write 95.000 words in 42 chapters.
2. Put drop caps on every chapter at the beggining.
3. Put the numbers with the font: Linux Biolinum Keyboard O
4. Change styles in some pages, some would be default, some first page, and some pages doesn't have number.

Actual Results:
Everything lost the format.

Expected Results:
Don't erase all the format....

Reproducible: Didn't try

User Profile Reset: No

Where did you save your document? On the HD of your computer or on an external drive like an usb drive?

Did you use direct formatting or customized styles? I think that using customized style allows you to layout your text document in a few minutes.

Status has been set to NEEDINFO, please set it back to UNCONFIRMED once requested information has been provided.

Best regards. JBF

Hello,
I save it in the HD.
I think I direct formated, if by that you mean I went one by one capitalizing letters, for example.
The error still happens, if I put drop caps and save, close and opens, the drop caps dissappears.
I can record this if it is useful.

I see the problem with drop caps when saving in ooxml format (docx) but not in ODF (odt) : https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109308

Could you confirm that you do not save in docx ?

Best regards. JBF

No, I didn't used docx
Everything happend in .odt
And it wasn't just the dropcaps.
I used a special letter Linux Biolinum Keybord, and it disappeared too. Everything was just wrong, text no justified, another font for the general text (it went to Liberation Serif, I had Palatino), pages without number (I had some pages with numbers, other's don't, with section changes).

Necane, thank you for reporting the bug. It seems you're using an old version of LibreOffice. Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.

I tried to replicated it the simple way, this is, putting some text, changing page size, using different fonts, drop caps... and the error didn't replicate.

But I didn't (and won't) try to replicate the error I had, this is: hours and hours of editing a lot of small things till it couldn't hold it anymore (at first it saved everything).

So I think we can close this.

Thank you for your attention!

The drop caps got solved by the update, that I can say :)
