Description: I am a writer. I have been using OpenOffice for several years. Then downloaded LibreOffice on February 8th. For the last week or so, I noticed that there was some confusion between the two programs. Sometimes a file would open in Open, other times in Libre. Then I could not save in Libre as I would get a message that the file was locked by Open, and I would have to save with a new file name. Very confusing. So several days ago I deleted OpenOffice. I did notice that some paragraphs at the end of files disappeared after I had saved them, but perhaps without closing them before Libre closed. It was after I deleted Open , that I began getting messages that Libre crashed on closing. At the moment, Libre only opens in safe-mode. I am not an IT specialist, but hope this information helps. Actual Results: I deleted OpenOffice I saved document files I closed Libre message that Libre crashed on closing Expected Results: Libre should close normally Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: now only open in safe mode
To start from a good base, here what I'd do: - backup your important files (odt or others) - if you use any LO or Apache OpenOffice extension, note them down somewhere and uninstall them - uninstall both Apache OpenOffice and LO - rename your LO directory profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Corrupted_user_profile) - download last stable LO version 6.3.5 and install it Before reinstalling any extension, make these tests: - Launch LO, write "test" in a brand new file and check you can save it and close LO without crash - reopen the file, change something, save it again and close - open one of your previous file, make a slight change, save and close LO If everything is ok, reinstall extensions and make these tests again. I know it's a bit long but if you reproduce a crash at one of these steps, it may help to investigate. If you finally prefer Apache OpenOffice, I'd advise to uninstall LO before installing again Apache OpenOffice. Perhaps some people may indicate that having both may work and perhaps it's true, I wouldn't try it to be safer.

Hi Thanks for helping. I have not done all the steps you suggest, as at the moment things are OK. Libre is opening in full mode, and I am being extra careful to save AND close all odt files well before closing Libre, and so far no further crashes. Probably a dumb question. What are the 'extensions' you mention? I have never done anything but write. Barbara

If you didn't know them, I suppose you didn't install one of them. Since you don't reproduce this, at least for the moment, let's put this one to "Works for me" then. Of course, don't hesitate to reopen this tracker if you can reproduce this again.
