Description Salim Monder 2020-04-16 14:39:05 UTC
Description:
When I deal with Arabic texts or even any right-to-left language and I want to copy or cut a certain amount of text, I need to press copy several times in order for the text to be copied to my clipboard.
This happens after the second time I copy or cut a text.
first and second times after I launch any Libreoffice program (writer, calc, impress, etc.), I can copy or cut text without any issue.
this bug starts after I copy or cut for the third time.
I have discovered that if I have elements in my clipboard, I also need to press copy or cut several times.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a document in any right-to-left language (Arabic in my case)
2. try to copy a text from it and paste it, this will work very few times (only 2 in my case)
3. try to copy and paste another text and here where the bug will appear

ps. This problem appears even if I tried to copy from Libreoffice to another application like GEdit or Web Browser but NOT vice versa.
I can copy/cut and paste normally any RTL text from any other program.

Actual Results:
if I succeeded in (#2), when I tried to apply (#3) the results from the paste operation are the same text that I cahad copied in (#2)

Expected Results:
copy, cut and paste normally, like it does with any English or even any left-to-right text.

Reproducible: Always

A Screencast showing the bug with GPaste results

I think I've found where the problem is
unfortunately I am not that good in English to describe it accurately

Anyways, I installed GPaste and tracked what happens in my clipboard

I will attach another video

I tried with Arabic RTL text three times with three different paragraphs and it worked fine to paste into another Writer document.

I wonder, if the problem could be related to this Gnome bug: bug 128803 ? Can you reproduce the problem, if you log into a Wayland session?

The bug is similar to ((bug 128803)) but not the same.
I can't paste images
I can't copy or paste from any libreoffice application, I need to press copy or cut many times in order to do so.
I reproduced the problem on Fedora 32 and I had the same results I had previously on Debian. I think it has to do with X or it is a Mutter bug on X.
I can't use wayland because my dedicated graphic card is not supported (NVIDIA MX230) my primary work is Blender and QGIS.

For me on Fedora 32, Disabling Clipboard Indicator GNOME Shell extension solved it for now, therefore I think as I mentioned earlier that it is either a Mutter bug or something to do with X.

Ok, let's close.

By the way, maybe you could try this for Wayland testing: https://medium.com/@alex285/how-to-enable-eglstreams-on-fedora-29-30-gnome-nvidia-wayland-fa28a67663bf

I'm not saying it would be bug-free, but at least you could test some stuff.

I found the tip in https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/gtc6c0/questions_on_fedora_gnome_and_nvidia/fsckmmd
