Description: After creating a 3D scene using To 3D Object Rotation or To 3D tools I try to edit the 3D scene created using 3D Effects dialog. I click on the 3D Effects icon and the dialog does not open. If I use a Windows 10 laptop everything works OK. This bug only seems to be in macOS. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a 2D object using a basic shape. 2. Convert to 3D using To 3D Object Rotation or To 3D tools 3. Click on the 3D Effects icon to open 3D Effects dialog. Dialog does not open and cannot edit the 3D scene. 4. I tried the same procedure on Toshiba laptop running Windows 10. 3D Effects dialog opens and I can edit the 3D scene. Actual Results: 3D Effects dialog does not open Expected Results: 3D Dialog open with editing tools available Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: The 3D Effects dialog should open with editing tools available
This bug is only in LibreOffice Draw Version 6.4.3. I have tried LibreOffice Draw Version 6.3.5.2 and the 3D Effects die;og can be opened and used without problem. I am using the same macOS system Catalina version 10.15.3
Could you try to launch LO from a terminal/console and see if there are any traces which may provide some hints?
Re Julien's comment. I have no idea what Julien means. I am an LO user updating the LO Draw Guide to Version 6.4 and came across this problem of 3D Effects dialog not opening when using a MacMini running macOS Catalina 10.15.3. The 3D Effects dialog opens in LO 6.4 when using a laptop running Windows 10. The 3D Effects dialog opens in LO 6.3 when using a MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina 10.15.3. Regards Peter Schofield
If you don't know what's terminal or console, I can't help here. uncc myself.
I do know what Terminal is and I used it for simple tasks, for example creating a bootable USB stick. So Terminal does not worry me. I do not know how to launch LO using Terminal to check the traces. Instruction please.
>3. Click on the 3D Effects icon to open 3D Effects dialog. Dialog does not open and cannot edit the 3D scene. where did you find 3D Effects icon? I can use only context menu item here
You have to add the 3D Effects icon/tool to the Drawing toolbar. There are two ways of doing this. First way 1. Right-click in an empty area on the Drawing toolbar and select Visible Buttons from the context menu. 2. Locate the 3D Effects in the context menu and select it. A checkmark (✓) against each name indicates which button is installed on the Drawing toolbar. 3. The 3D Effects icon will appear in the Drawing toolbar. Second way 1) Right-click in an empty area on the Drawing toolbar and select Customize Toolbar from the context menu opening the Customize dialog. 2) Make sure that Drawing is displayed in the Target text box. 3) Scroll down in Available Commands until you have located In 3D Effects and then select 3D Effects. 4) Click on the right-facing arrow and the 3D Effects command will appear in Assigned Commands. 5) Click OK to save your changes and close the Customize dialog. The 3D Effects icon will appear on the Drawing toolbar.
Made a mistake on item 1. Second way 1) Right-click in an empty area on the Drawing toolbar and select Customize Toolbar from the context menu.
I can't reproduce this with Version: 6.4.3.2 Build ID: 747b5d0ebf89f41c860ec2a39efd7cb15b54f2d8 CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 10.15.4; UI render: default; VCL: osx; Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US Calc: threaded 1) Open a new Draw document 2) Draw a 2D object, e.g from one of the 2D object toolbars. 3) Convert the object to 3D, either simple 3D or rotational 3D 4)(a) Select converted object, right-mouse button click click on 3D Effects, dialog displays. OR 4)(b) Enter Customize menu for the Draw toolbar, find 3D Effect button and add it to toolbar. Ensure that it is activated. Save changes to Customize dialog, noticed that the 3D Effect button is displayed in the toolbar. 5) Click on 3D Effect button in toolbar - dialog displayed. What am I doing differently ?

I think I may have the problem. There is a compatibility issue with macOS Catalina 10.15 and possibly macOS Mojave 10.14. I work using a Mac Mini 2020 model year running macOS Catalina. The 3D Effects problem happened on this computer setup. I have since installed LibreOffice version 6.4.3 on my very old Mac Mini running macOS High Sierra 10.13. The 3D Effects dialog opens without any problems and I can edit in 3D. I have also noticed that using macOS Catalina with LO 6.4.3 it is sometimes difficult to select items in LO Draw when creating a drawing. Conclusion, compatibility problem between macOS and LO 6.4.3. Can this be investigated. Regards Peter Schofield
Further progress in my investigation into this bug report as a LibreOffice user. This only happens on Apple computers running macOS. Windows 10 computers no problem. When click on the 3D Effects icon to open the 3D Effects dialog, the dialog does not appear as a floating dialog. However, it does open, but is hidden. To make the dialog become a floating dialog you have to do this: 1. Converts a 2D object into 3D using To 3D or To 3D rotation Object tools, then click on the 3D Effects icon/tool 2. Close the Pages page and the Sidebar. DO NOT hide. 3. Reduce the size of the Drawing Workspace, usually from the left side. This will expose the 3D Effects dialog as a side window. 4. Click and hold in the top left corner of this window and drag it into the Workspace. 5. Release the mouse button and the 3D Effects dialog appears as a floating dialog. This is the only dialog I have come across that does this hiding trick when opened. Could someone try to solve this problem. Peter Schofield
(In reply to PeeWee from comment #5) > > I do not know how to launch LO using Terminal to check the traces. > Instruction please. Peter, am I right that you use LibreOffice on MAC and on Windows? The "Terminal" is probably specific to Linux. Image LinuxLxdeCommandLine.png shows you where the terminal is found in the Linux/Debian LXDE menu. When I click "Konsole" I get a Terminal window. In the image Soffice61.png that's the black window in the upper left area of the screen. If I enter the command $ soffice in the black Terminal window, LibreOffice will start. You can see a few error messages in the terminal window. In my case that's Gdk-WARNING **: 17:18:08.558: gdk_window_set_icon_list: icons too large In my case that happens when I start LibreOffice 6.1 The Konsole and these error messages are probably Julian's remark: "Could you try to launch LO from a terminal/console and see if there are any traces which may provide some hints?" I also have version 6.4. To start that version, I need to give the command $ /opt/libreoffice6.4/program/soffice In that case LibreOffice 6.4 will start. That's also image Soffice64.png As you can see, I don't get any error messages when starting 6.4 BTW, for those who are helping you, it's often useful if you go to Help -> About LibreOffice and copy most of the text there and paste it in every bug report that you start. Then we can see which operating system you are using and help you better. ;-) I hope this helps! PS: - I'm not a developer. I'm a user myself and I submitted a few bug reports. I'm now trying to confirm the bugs that other people report here.

Hi Peter, As Bart says, can you copy the version information in the About dialog? Additionally, I can't reproduce your problem, see the screencast I'm uploading Could you make a screencast and upload it as an attachment? It is very simple on macOS: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208721 Setting the status as Needinfo, you can reset it back to Unconfirmed after providing this information Version: 6.4.3.5 Build ID: 4db9852e73d9e9d662fc8a2783bace79addf1805 CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.14.6; UI render: default; VCL: osx; Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US Calc: threaded

The info given in Comment 13 does not work. Using Terminal on my Mac Mini, I get a message that the command is not recognized each time I enter into the Terminal window and hit the Enter key. This also happens even after making sure the command is the same as how LibreOffice has been installed on my Mac. I did discover a workaround and that is in Comment 12. Each time I now select 3D Effects, the dialog opens now that I have un-docked and un-hidden it. However, I have to be careful when moving the dialog around the screen to prevent it from docking and hiding again. This only happens to this dialog. All other dialogs open normally and can be easily used. Please remember that I use macOS Catalina 10.15. I can also use macOS High Sierra 10.13, but the 3D Effects dialog problem is the same. On my very old Toshiba running Windows 10, there is no problem yet with LO Draw 6.4.

Yes, well that's because the commands used on the command line are different for macOS and Linux when trying to start LO. On macOS in a terminal: open /Applications/LO6432.app for exammple, will launch the LO application, but will not give you any useful output. You can also use the complete path to the soffice binary : /Applications/LO6432.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice might provide you with more feedback information if there's a crash, but other than that, no. > I did discover a workaround and that is in Comment 12. > Each time I now select 3D Effects, the dialog opens now that I have > un-docked and un-hidden it. However, I have to be careful when moving the > dialog around the screen to prevent it from docking and hiding again. This > only happens to this dialog. All other dialogs open normally and can be > easily used. Docking of the 3D-Effects window is a profle configuration option set in the XCU files. This would indicate that you might at one have had this set to be the case rather than free-floating, or alternatively, the UX Devs changed this property in the version where you are experiencing the issues (which I don't have btw on macOS Catalina 10.15 as I have already reported here) and moved the 3D-Effects dialog to the sidebar, deliberately. If it is the latter case we are talking about, then likely this will not be a bug. As neither I, nor eisa01 can reproduce the issue on macOS (and on 2 different OS release versions), there's not much else we can add.
I tried to reproduce this bug at my cataline using this libreoffice version: Version: 7.0.0.1.0+ Build ID: 30ea3ba86b110db68c19815c5c67d4d315c091bf CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.15.5; UI render: default; VCL: osx Locale: en-ID (en_ID.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded The dialog is open for a while and after that its look hidden somewhere, i tried to look for it and cant found the way how to show it again. I already try to click using the right button again and click the 3d effect
Dear PeeWee, To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.
