Description: Hello, I have LibreOffice 6.4.3.2 and when I edit documents, it freezes every 30 seconds or so, for no apparent reason. I have already tried disabling hardware acceleration, but it doesn't solve the problem. Note that I didn't have this problem the last time I was using Writer, so I think a recent update causes the issue. Unfortunately I have no idea what might be causing this issue, so my bug report might not be very helpful for you. Hopefully you can still help me... Thank you for your support ! Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a document 2. Start typing, and after a few minutes it freezes Actual Results: Writer freezes for about 5 seconds. In particular the cursor doesn't change shape when hovering on other windows, as it should normally do. Expected Results: The document I was editing was not at all heavy, so I wouldn't expect Writer to crash. Reproducible: Sometimes User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 6.4.3.2 Build ID: libreoffice-6.4.3.2-snap1 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3; Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US Calc: threaded
Did you install any specific fonts or extension? Do you reproduce this with a document containing a small paragraph? Could you give a try at this link: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps ? Also, could you test this: - launch term/console - export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen - soffice --writer give a new try? (the goal is to know if it's related to gtk3)
Thank you for your quick support ! I did what you suggested, but it didn't fix it. Here are the answers to your questions: - No, I didn't install or use special fonts or extensions. - I could reproduce it with a 1-page document, so it has nothing to do with big and complex documents. - I tried the different fixes in the link you gave me, without success ;/. - I launched Writer in the terminal with the exported variable, without succes again. Again, I should note that I didn't have this problem before and that I didn't change LibreOffice explicitely. So either it comes from a new version of LibreOffice, or either to a configuration change on my machine...
Thank you for your feeback. Would it be possible you retrieve an strace? (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#GNU.2FLinux:_How_to_get_an_strace_log) As soon as you reproduce the pb, kill strace process. Indeed, strace log is very verbose.
Hello, I am sorry, but I don't have the soffice command installed (when you wrote soffice above, I thought you meant libreofice ^-^). I am on Ubuntu 19 and I installed libreoffice through snap, I don't see how the debug packages can be installed.

Could you try to install LO from LO ppa repository (see https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa) ?
Hello, After installing LO from the PPA you gave me, I no longer experience the freezes that I had. So I guess the version from the snap store (6.4.3) is maybe not yet stable... Anyway, thanks for you support ! You guys rock, you react very quickly to the users !
Thank you for your feedback :-) Let's put this one to WFM then.
