Description coleblackman 2020-04-30 17:05:15 UTC
Description:
Libreoffice has a number of severe UI issues on MacOS. All UI text is blurry (does not support resolution scaling or cleartext) - https://imgur.com/a/wu13dlZ. All icons are similarly low-resolution. There are a combination of native elements (Style, font, font size dropdown menus) with custom elements (such as all other menu buttons, etc). There are further inconsistencies with the application style: A number of elements do not fit together properly - see (https://imgur.com/a/vWXFyUo) for examples. The top bar has 2 rounded corners instead of 4 (or none). These are, in my view, unacceptable barriers to entry for such a mature project aiming at widespread adoption.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Persistent on all MacOS installs
2.
3.

Actual Results:
This occurs on 2 macOS installations that I performed, both with completely stock themes and settings.

Expected Results:
Should follow MacOS development guidelines and scale text appropriately.

Reproducible: Always

I read that bug and I don't see it as a duplicate. This issue is referring to the general UI issues, not specifically the blurry font exclusively.

@Cole: Which macOS and LO version are you using?

I think to make this report useful, we would need followup bugs following the rule 1 problem per bug.

So if the icons are blurry for you, file a bug for that. If the status bar at the bottom showing zoom level is blurry, please file a second bug for that.

"The top bar has 2 rounded corners instead of 4 (or none)." If I understand correctly, you mean the very top bar? Two rounded corners would imo be the expected default on macOS. What is unexpected is, that the field below the title bar also has rounded corners. That should not be the case. So that would be another separate bug.

Could you file the issues you are seeing in separate bugs please and feel free to link those bugs via the "See also:" field. Thanks for your feedback.

Sure, I'll go ahead and add those individual bugs in the next few days. I am on 10.15.4 Catalina and 6.4.3 LO. Thanks for your help and sorry for not providing that in the initial post.

Known issue. e.g. bug 122218

>All icons are similarly low-resolution.

Also known issue. e.g. bug 100995

Also known per se, due to the interface programmers not using macOS current API for native interface elements.

If I compage with the Apple supplied Pages.app, then the bottom 2 corners of the top toolbar are not rounded either. To that extent, LO is consistent with what Apple provides in its own apps. The same goes for the Numbers.app.

Closing, when filing the follow up bugs, please take the known issues Alex posted into account. Thank you.
