Description negdacham 2020-05-06 23:56:35 UTC
Description:
I receive slides with audio whose extension is pptx. However, when opening the slide in trying to play the audio, instead of a button with the option to play the audio, an object appears with a video icon, that is, a simple image and nothing else.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Get a slide made with PowerPoint (pptx) that contains a recorded audio.
2.Try to open the audio with LibreOffice Impress

Actual Results:
Sorry, I don't know. This error is simple.

Expected Results:
Sorry, I don't know. Thank you for you time. I will be great if we can reproduce audios from PowerPoint in LibreOffice.

Reproducible: Always

I don't repro this, I can play sound in Win with LO 6.4 and LO 7.1+ both in presentation and from slide, using play control in sidebar.
Please explain, what's exact bug for you. Looks like enhancement request to have control on the media, not using sidebar.
While MSO video is clear, I don't get that media control in MSO 2016.

OK, I could finally.

I change the title to enhancement.
Question for UX is: should we add media control on right-click like in MSO or add Preview in existing right-click menu or it's enough to have play control in sidebar.

Powerpoint has a floating widget popping up on hover; guess the expectation is either this or to start playback on click (and show a tooltip on hover). We also need a configuration whether to autoplay (as today) or not (the sidebar has room for this). Last but not least, the icon is quite ugly.

Workaround is to add an image/shape/button and assign an interaction on click with a link to the audio file.

Screen video of LO not playing Powerpoint audio

There seems to be no way of getting the Powerpoint audio to play under LO runnin on the Mac.

"Hijacking" is a very loaded word. Please use it with care!

The OP's summary (later overwritten) was "With LibreOffice Impress I can't play audio from slides made with PowerPoint". The OPs' expected results say "I will be great if we can reproduce audios from PowerPoint in LibreOffice" (I suspect "I" was meant to be "It" :-).

That's the bug I was confirming is present on LO under MacOS.

An enhancement request for better audio controls on all Impress files is valid and helpful. However, the OP was reporting inability to play audio on imported PowerPoint files, not asking for a more convenient way to play audio that can already be played.
