Description Jean-Paul 2020-05-24 07:22:31 UTC
Description:
When a mail merge output file is single (one document for all records in the database) and some fields are empty, the writer text line is hidden for these empty fields.

When a mail merge output file is individual (one document for each record in the database) and some fields are empty, the writer text line is not hidden.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. download sample data
2. open test-bug.ods : the second record has no values in fields "unit cost" and "total cost"
3. open bug-text.odt and output as file as a single document : in that document, on the second page, there are no lines for the fields "unit cost" and "total cost".
4. open bug-text.odt and output as file as individual documents : in the second document, there are lines for the fields "unit cost" and "total cost".

Actual Results:
When opening bug-text.odt and output as file as individual documents : in the second document, there are lines for the fields "unit cost" and "total cost".

Expected Results:
When opening bug-text.odt and output as file as individual documents, the expected result should be the same as for the single document : no text line for empty fields.

Reproducible: Always

Thank you for reporting the bvug. Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I also didn't see at first with default setting of View / Field Hidden Paragraph.
Can be seen with that field turned on.
So the issue is: single output is a simple text and individual output are fields.
It's explained in comment 10 of bug 89178 and if would be NotABug abd I also would not like this to change.

I'll confirm this bug as Documentation, so that it's explained in Mail merge help.

On a second thought, let's merge with existing bug for better visibility.
