Open Draw and draw some shapes than Menubar -> Shape -> Duplicate in the first line there is Number of copies and an spinbutton next to the spinbutton there is an "pipette" button. When you click on the button the tooltip say "Values from Selection" but when you click the button the x-Axis and y-Axis value change so the button should be located somewhere in the Placement section.
Created attachment 161296 [details] Duplicate Dialog Click button change x-Axis and y-Axis property and not Number of copies.
There should be also another icon. The question is do I have to use an icon from sd/res/ folder? I would suggest to use instead of the button (with the icon) an checkbox with the label "Values from Selection" between y-Axis and Angle.
If the source object has different fill color than the default blue this button takes the actual value into start (color). We could always do so. What's your take, Regina?

So "No" for changing to automatic fill. The "Value from selection"-button does exactly what the Help says about it. Because it affects 'X axis' and 'Y axis' in 'Placement' as well as 'Start' in 'Colors' at the same time, it cannot be inside either of the sections. The 'Default'-button fills 'X axis' and 'Y axis' with values X=0.5cm and Y=0.5cm and fills Start and End color from selected object. It therefore has a similar scope. Perhaps combine "Default"-button and "Value from selection"-button into a new line? And use only text in both cases, although I yet not know good labels. The current icon for "Value from selection"-button is the "pipette" icon from icon-theme, but the button is not only about colors and therefore the current icon does not fit.

So "No" for > changing to automatic fill. Let's close the request then. Proper use of the dialog requires reading the documentation/help.
