Description: Can we please have a feature similar to adding field names but in form of left or right sider. This sort of feature is currently not available on any Document Processor that I am aware of - so it could be a forte for LibreOffice. I am aware that something like this can be achieved by using a frame and anchoring it to paragraph in header, and adding a page field in that. The main challenge in this I presume would be setting the precedence as to what overlaps the other when the "sider" and header/footer overlap. Attached the png/pdf/odt. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Add frame interactively 2. Anchor it to header / footer 3. Set Wrap options as desired. Actual Results: Got them to work like I want. Expected Results: Would like if it was integrated into LO. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Where do I attach the files? Just need to fill this box so I can submit for new feature request.

What do you want to achieve with the frame? Your example looks like it shows the page number and that is likely not what you want. Header/Footer sounds like free text input but please describe your use case a bit more so we can see if more users are interested (since you managed it with a frame).

I don't know how to add page number automatically on the left/right like in a header and footer. AFAIK you have to add a frame manually to every page. If you write a book, you won't do this.

The frame will be repeated on each page automatically, no need to add it manually. Set the desired side in the position properties of the frame. Automatic even/odd page mirroring is possible. Put the page number into a paragraph in the frame. You can style such frame as you need it. In case you need help in using such frame, go to our "Ask"-site or to the user mailing list. I see no need for a special left or right area.

@acers, does this work for you?
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #8) > @acers, does this work for you? It works partially - at least for me. No problem with left-side pages, but on right-side pages I can only drag the frame to the left margin. If I drag it to the right margin, anchor jumps to the header on the next page (I would consider this as a bug, but would open a separate report for that).
(In reply to Dieter from comment #9) > open a separate report for that Please do so.
Created attachment 163412 [details] Example with solution It worked with a new document (see attachment)

For creating books or lengthy brochures such can be used for easier page navigation and make the document look appealing. But you are right, if it can be done using a frame why create components that can render the application unnecessarily bulky or sluggish. Anyways it was just a suggestion so that the developers could consider the merits or demerits of this.
